Hey, i remember when this was in the stores couple years ago. Does anyone here know anything about it or have played it? I read a descriptions but they made it sound a little arcady. It sounded though like it had good ol briefing screens with detail which is something i miss.

If I come across it at EB Games I'll pick it up. I doubt I'd play it much because judging by the pics in that review (and some comments on these boards), the TAW cockpit is no more.

Well, the cockpit is my favorite thing about TAW!...

Seems to me most people just wanted a graphics update to the much loved and critically acclaimed EF2000. But DID wanted to try something new. I'll never understand this.

Wouldn't improving an already good (make the GREAT) product take a lot less development time than tossing it aside and creating something new?!?! Seems to me the payoff would have been a lot better.

An updated EF2000 is at the very top of my flight sim wish list, with an updated TAW right behind it.

It wasn't DiD that produced Typhoon, it was a company called Rage. DiD sold out, and "some" of its employees went to Rage (hope I got that right).

It wasn't as if Typhoon was arcady as much as it was just unfinished... Yes, I was soooo dissapointed. All I wanted was a graphics update to THE most amazing flight sim I ever played. But it wasn't.

What Typhoon was (imho) was very innovative in its approach to how the player fought in a simulated war. I really liked that. And, it had all the telltale signs of a DiD product.

If I see it in a store I'll pick it up again, you should too!

piper, thanks for the clarification.

I will purchase Typhoon if I come across a used copy at EB Games or Game Stop, but I'm not going to go out of my way looking for a copy online.

To me, the one most important feature of any sim is the cockpit environment, and I don't believe I'd like Typhoon's very much considering threads like these...

Wow, that was great reading the old combatsim threads...spent alot of time there (till they went pay-per-view). Cat, Andy posting, cool!

Yep, you won't like Typhoon,,,don't even bother.

Ever tried Jane's F/A-18? Now that's cockpit management.

...I do miss DiD though.

I didn't start reading flight sim boards until late-'03 so this is all way before my time.

One of my Favorites links...
http://www.combatsim.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi

Most of the EF2000 discussions seem to be under the generic Jets section and not EF2000/ADF/TAW. I believe I read that they once had a rule of not creating a dedicate board for a sim without some kind of sponsorship or something.

But there's some great EF2000 reads in there! \:\)

The "Cat" person you're referring to is...me. Dude, I cannot even believe that Combatsim.com still has all those old posts.

\:D Rereading that stuff was funny. I was such a freaking grognard/whiner, wasn't I? I'd probably have banned myself nowadays \:D .... In those days I was flying about 30 hours a week, some of it on the online ladders (up to about 1998), and writing reviews for Womengamers.com. I'm lucky if I fly that much in six MONTHS nowadays, and I'm much less "into" the simming community. I haven't flown online in years.

I absolutely HATED Typhoon. I did finally break down and buy it, like a total idiot. I also go rid of it rather soon after. It was a new low in cockpit presentation. I still think that a working cockpit is critical to simulation immersion. TK knew that when he did SF, that is one reason that SF has hung on. Look at the Lock On fans. Part of their love for the game is the onboard immersion. And don't get me started on Falcon 4.0.

I love TAW, it is the only sim that lasts when I change over computers. It's been installed on every one i have had since it came out. Why on Earth they didn't simply build on the source for EF2k or TAW I will never know. It's such a shame that WARGEN 3 was wasted on Typhoon. That game made me think more of "Crimson Skies" than any serious combat simulation I've ever flown.
