After this one, I'll stop hammering on Nvidia. But, I am surprised. As I mentioned, I figured they'd crush AMD -- at least at the high end. But, the high end has problems. I won't bother reporting them all. It's impolite.

Nvidia's RTX 50-series drivers feel half-baked, focus too much on MFG
New testing techniques only serve to highlight the problems.
the Nvidia Blackwell RTX 50-series GPUs haven't had the smoothest of launches. The RTX 5090 at least offers new levels of performance, while the RTX 5080 delivers only slightly better performance than the prior generation RTX 4080 Super. But both GPUs seem to be suffering from a case of early drivers and the need for additional tuning.
The article is long; but the essence is above.
Perhaps they should have delayed the launch -- like AMD has done to fix issues.
Of course, we'll see whether or not AMD actually fixed the issues at a competitive price when those AMD cards are released. In March??
AMD’s CEO Verifies RX 9070 Series GPUs Launch In Early March, Will Focus Specifically On Mainstream GPU Consumers

In Gaming Graphics, revenue declined year over year, as we accelerated channel sellout in preparation for the launch of our next-gen Radeon 9000 series GPUs.
Our focus with this generation is to address the highest volume portion of the enthusiast gaming market with our new RDNA 4 architecture. RDNA 4 delivers significantly better rate tracing performance and add support for AI-powered upscaling technology that will bring high-quality 4K gaming to mainstream players when the first Radeon 9070 series GPUs go on sale in early March.
Dr. Lisa Su - AMD CEO (Q4 2024 Earnings Call)
Depending on the prices, I'll either "snap one up" OR "think about it".
If I buy, its just to have "the newest" AMD GPU. The AMD GPUs I have handle all my games at 1440p. My best AMD GPUs (e.g. in signature) work at 4K without issues.
AMD Crushes Intel In CPU Sales In Germany, Leaves Less Than 7% Revenue For Its Rival
AMD established a hold on over 93% of revenue generated from selling CPUs in one month, while Intel is stuck with just 6.55%, creating a massive gap.
Intel is becoming absolutely owned in the CPU competition, and whether it is the NA, EU, Asia, or any other part of the world, AMD isn't leaving much for its rival, and the AMD-Intel CPU gap is only widening.
NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5070 Now Rumored To See Retail Launch By Early March; Right Alongside AMD’s RX 9070 Series GPUs
NVIDIA's "mid-range" GeForce RTX 5070 is now reported to launch by early March,
While the reason behind this delay hasn't been specified yet, it is certainly an influence of AMD's RDNA 4 launch, and NVIDIA may be determined to nail the release of an RTX Blackwell GPU, considering that the GeForce RTX 5090 and the RTX 5080 was a mess.
I'm sad AMD isn't going really going to be releasing "hi-end" cards anymore according to their current mantra... So the best we can hope for is NVidia 5070 levels of performance...

I think they are planning on the "next release" (in a year or two) to go back to competing across the board.
This reminds me of the AMD 5700 series. It had mid performance. It also ended at the mid price point.
The AMD Radeon RX 5700 has hit the shelves for an MSRP of $349, while its bigger brother, the RX 5700 XT, is $50 more, at $399
That was their last attempt at a product aimed only at the "middle" of the gaming community.
Accounting for inflation and the extra hardware in the latest GPUs, the current 9070 (same idea as the AMD 5700) should cost in the $500 - $650 range at most to capture the mid-price point. But, we'll see -- perhaps on Feb 28.
So far the "guesses" are that they will cost more. But, I would imagine to really capture market share, they would have to be noticeably cheaper than the Nvidia 5070 series while out performing them. That's a "we'll see" when they are released and get independently tested.

XFX Radeon RX 9070 XT Listed at $750, RX 9070 at $650 in leaked Amazon Listing

Today, NVIDIA released the third fastest card within its "RTX 50" portfolio, the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti. The GeForce RTX 5070 Ti retains its enthusiast positioning with the green team promising lots of performance at a price point of $749 US which is $50 US lower than the 4070 Ti SUPER. Today, we will be trying out Colorful GeForce RTX 5070 Ti NB EX, a custom variant designed with a ton of cooling potential and retails at MSRP.
This is the Direct Competitor to the Upcoming AMD 9070 GPUs.
The 5070Ti gets very high frame rates in some popular games -- when using DLSS4 frame generation for most of the frames. Some reviews mention the Image Degradation using DLSS4 to the max.
The measured raw "raster-only" performance speed seems much lower. Some users prefer "raster only" -- i.e. no image degradation.
I was going to try to keep my mouth err keyboard shut on Nvidia for the next week and just see how things turned out.
Just now, I read this article nominally published at 1:12pm EST.:

NVIDIA’s “Mid-Range” GeForce RTX 50 GPU Release Has Reportedly Turned Into A Mess; RTX 5070/RTX 5060 Now Delayed By Several Weeks
GeForce RTX 5070 and RTX 5060 Reportedly Delayed by Around a Month As the GPUs Still Need Debugging
Do keep in mind that this isn't an official report, but, likely, the upcoming RTX 50 series mid-range GPUs may not enter the market on expected dates.
As per the report, the Taiwan earthquake has also affected the wafer supply, worsening the availability of these GPUs and causing poor inventory levels around their launch time. Thus, you should prepare for another paper launch in advance, just in case these reports are true.
Will these reports be true? Another "we'll see" what actually happens.
All kinds of issues with the new batch of GPUs. Some Nvidia issues have been verified. Some AMD issues are predicted -- we'll find out in a week or two -- or whenever the cards are sold, we're told.

Some RTX 5090s are shipping with missing ROP units, leading to less gaming performance: Updated
hardware sleuth MEGAsizeGPU, who frequently gets the inside scoop from board partners, alleges Nvidia has supplied AIBs with defective GB202 chips, suggesting the issue is a hardware defect that cannot be corrected through software or BIOS updates. Consequently, all RTX 5090s may potentially ship with fewer ROPs than advertised, including Nvidia’s own Founders Edition design.
If you’ve been lucky enough to get your hands on an RTX 5090, the only way to determine whether your model is affected is to check the ROP count.
So far, GPUs from MSI, Manli, Zotac, Gigabyte, and Nvidia’s own Founders Edition model have reported instances of reduced ROP counts. This list is likely to increase as more reports emerge.
I keep posting this stuff. Not to damage Nvidia or AMD. Rather, to give readers reason to buy this years GPUs only from trusted sources that allow easy returns/refunds. Just in case.
NVIDIA Confirms Only 0.5% RTX 5090 & 5070 Ti GPUs Affected By Missing ROP Units, Replacements For Affectees & Production Corrected

We have identified a rare issue affecting less than 0.5% (half a percent) of GeForce RTX 5090 / 5090D and 5070 Ti GPUs which have one fewer ROP than specified. The average graphical performance impact is 4%, with no impact on AI and Compute workloads. Affected consumers can contact the board manufacturer for a replacement. The production anomaly has been corrected.

Coincidentally, TPU's own sample also exhibited a similar discrepancy, with 168 ROPs instead of the expected 176, a delta of 4.5%
Nvidia says 0.5% of cards missing ROP units. One of the sites said their particular card had almost 5% missing ROP units.
Nvidia did say 4% less performance -- which corresponds to the site's almost 5% missing ROPs. And, said the card manufacturers would replace the defective cards.

NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5080 With “Missing ROPs” Has Finally Been Tested; Up To 11% Performance Drop In Gaming Tests
NVIDIA hasn't elaborated much on the "missing ROP" situation, except for giving out statements to media outlets, which has created uncertainty around it. However, for consumers who are worried about experiencing this issue on their respective GPU, we urge them to test the unit out through GPU-Z, and if the ROP count is less than the original, you should contact either your respective retailer or AIB manufacturer to get a replacement.
But considering the [low] supply of RTX 50 series GPUs right now, getting a replacement might take weeks or even months
As you may know, I build PCs "for the fun of it" -- 9 operational in the house -- plus 7 or more of the last couple generations "just sitting there". Loads of new empty cases and parts.
I've decided to go with a "new" build for my probable eventual 9070XT GPU. The parts came today. The main items "in hand" as of today:
