The nominations for the 97th Academy Awards were revealed live this morning.
Emilia Pérez is the top nominee with 13 total, making the musical the most-nominated non–English language film in Oscars history. Next in line this year are Wicked and The Brutalist with 10 nominations each.
The only movies I have seen on this list are The Substance with 5 nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Original Screenplay, Best Makeup and Hairstyling; Flow with 2 nominations for Best Animated Feature and Best International Feature; Alien: Romulus nominated for Best Visual Effects and Gladiator II nominated for Best Costume Design.
What can I say? I prefer to watch old movies.

I live for the Academy Awards ! It is the highlight of my year. I make sure I see every movie in the runnings. I research each movie and actor/actress.
I can hardly contain myself.
Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.
“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”
The only film I have seen in the running for the awards is "Dune: Part Two," and I would hardly consider that a winner for best picture. Perhaps for cinematography, however. The film was well shot, although... David Lynch's version of the battle scene at the end was better in every way.

Same here and it will stay that way for me. I have zero interest in the other films in the list.

Haven't seen any of the movies, recognize only 2-3 names and I couldn't pick any of them out of a lineup.

Only one I saw was "Dune" Part Two". Monica Barbaro played Phoenix in Top Gun Maverick, Arnold's daughter in the Netflix series FUBAR, plus this 2013 YouTube great.

Dune: Part Two, The Brutalist and Conclave are the only three movies of 2024 that I have any interest in. I have seen Dune, and I loved it, and need to see the other two. The movie industry as a whole is in the trough of a huge wave these days. I am done with the Marvel universe, it was fun for a while, but now it has just become silly. It seems that most other movies are either remakes or sequels no-one asked for.
In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

I watched a few minutes of "Emilia Perez" and it was instantly obvious to me why the Oscar committee promoted this one.

Dune is amazing of course. Wild Ronot I recommend highly if you have young children Wicked...i went for my daughter but I got to say I enjoyed it more than I thought I would
I . Wild Ronot I recommend highly if you have young children
It uses the same premise as "Avatar" and "Dances with Wolves" but it was well executed IMHO.

Yawn, I haven't watched an Awards show in probably 20 years
I have you beat: 62 years.

The last Oscars I watched in full was around 2015 but that was only because my wife's friends had an "Oscar party" so I went for the free food.

Do they not give awards for best actress? Only best supporting actress?
