What a disaster ! And it still isn’t over. Firefighting greatly hindered because of water problems.
I’m posting this link not because of the shots at the Mayor but because of the map. It is about half way down in the article. You pick it out because of the mustard, red, and light green colors. It is scalable and moveable. So you can go to a fire area and zoom in. The more you zoom in you can get individual buildings. There isn’t a key, but I think the mustard color is burned area, the red evacuation area, the green is evacuation warning. When you zoom in, you can see how many buildings are already burned. Zoom out and you can move it to the other fire areas.

Just terrible.

If you go to windy.com and select the Satellite option, you can see where the fires are around L.A.

Never would I imagined that some of L.A.'s most exclusive neighborhoods would be allowed to burn like this.

I wonder if the people pulling the gas cans out were doing it so that it wouldn't catch fire if they had to drive through some burning areas. It looked like they in traffic, possibly evacuating, and just put them on the side of the road.

Have any investigators found out yet what sparked these wildfires? I find it odd how this happened in the middle of winter.

Things just got a bit tougher. At this time they have actually grounded both of them.

Canadian ‘Super Scooper’ plane grounded after hitting civilian drone over Los Angeles wildfires.
https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/10/us/super-scooper-drone-collision-la-fire-canada-hnk-intl/index.html

Quote
A Canadian “Super Scooper” aircraft fighting the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles had to be grounded after it hit a drone flying in restricted airspace over the devastating blaze on Thursday, the local fire department said.

The specifically designed CL-415 firefighting planes are used to scoop up more than 1,500 gallons of ocean water to drop on active fires.

The plane in question, Quebec 1, “sustained wing damage and remains grounded and out of service,” Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson Erik Scott said, adding that there were no reported injuries.

The collision caused the temporary grounding of all aircraft responding to the Palisades Fire, The War Zone reported, citing Cal Fire. It was one of the two such planes deployed to the site, The War Zone said.

CNN has contacted Cal Fire for comment.

The LAFD released photos of the plane – bearing the tail number C-GQBG – showing a hole in the front of one its wings. C-GQBG is listed on multiple flight tracking websites as a Canadair CL-415.

Two CL-415 planes are sent annually to California from the Canadian province of Quebec, under a 31-year-old agreement between their respective governments, CNN newsgathering partner CBC reported.

Sarah Bensadoun, a spokesperson for Quebec’s Transport Ministry, told CBC the province sends a firefighting team of 25 pilots and 20 technicians.

On Thursday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau posted on X a video of one of the planes in action in California, saying it was an example of “Neighbours helping neighbors,” using both American-English spelling and the British-English spelling more common in Canada.

The midair collision is now under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration, which said the firefighting aircraft landed safely.

The FAA underscored late Thursday that it “has not authorized anyone unaffiliated with the Los Angeles firefighting operations to fly drones” in restricted airspace put in place over the wildfires.

“The FAA treats these violations seriously and immediately considers swift enforcement action for these offenses,” the agency said.

It said that drones near aerial firefighting can ground air tankers, slow fire response, and cost lives.

The FAA did not specify which agency was operating the aerial firefighting aircraft. Flight tracking data showed Cal Fire air tankers and helicopters as well as those from county fire departments and government contractors operating over the LA wildfires Thursday.

So end of 2024 & beginning of 2025 has been pretty crazy already, my guess for the first major resulting change will be tough restrictions on drones.

And severe consequences for the drone operator I hope.

Thank you for the video, Crane.

So sad. How do you pick up and start over? Where do you even begin when everything is lost?

You start over with the help of family, friends, business connections, church assistance, FEMA, insurance, your savings and investments, etc.

You haven’t lost everything.

You still have your education, training, experience, network of friends, family, and business connections, your savings, your investments, etc, etc.

You have lost your home, most possessions, documents if you haven’t protected them properly, mementos and emotional keepsakes, etc.

It is terrible and a real setback. Financially and emotionally. Worse if you didn’t have insurance.

You haven’t lost your family.

Very terrible, but you haven’t lost everything.

A lot of these people had no insurance. In reaction to certain laws many insurance companies canceled California policies and stopped doing business in the state.

It is not real clear, and I’m sure that more will come out. Seems that some insurance companies stopped coverage but there were others to go to. Then there was the last resort one. Not to be grim about it, but it seems there were options, but not everyone took them. But I may be wrong. We have a similar problem in Florida. Surprisingly it is more about sinkholes than hurricanes. Mt prefer company stopped coverage and I had to go to an alternative. 5% more expensive, but I wanted coverage.
