I am currently running an Alienware PC so it came with WIN 11 pre-installed. I've had zero issues with WIN 11 so far.

I generally only upgrade to a new OS when people start chasing me around with pitchforks & torches.

Windows 10, and even that's quite new since my DCS just refused to boot up in Windows 7 regardless of any other action about 3 or 4 years ago. Me nor the devs at ED could figure it out.

How is Win11 at running old legacy games ?

When I built the new box a couple months ago I swapped out all the hard drives too, so I decided to go to Win 11 while I was at it. So far so good. I haven't had strong feelings about my Windows version since XP when I was a holdout until Win10 had been out a while.

OG, the oldest game I've installed since doing so is Witcher 3 so I can't be much help, but I've not heard of any issues that Win10 wouldn't have. How far you going back?

I have played both Quake II and Doom 3 on WIN 11 and both ran fine.

Same. But I suppose I have to give in some time this year.

Considering the number of people we have on SimHQ who don't even game anymore or who only play games over 10 years old or more, I'd be surprised if the votes for WIN 11 outnumber the votes for WIN 10.

A few years ago they told us that if you updated your game past a certain Ver.x point it would no longer run in Win7 I didn't update my game because I primarily only flew the P-51 around and I was happy with it. I now have Win 10 and I barely fly DCS at all, I've only played a little IL-2 and a few others for 20mins or so after I started migrating everything to an SSD and the performance is much better now

I’m playing a wide range of games. Some require DOSBox, others are Win95 and I get get them going with compatibility and run as administrator, etc. each seems to require its own tweaking. I was told that Win11 is worse than 10 for running these old games.

Ah ok, so you're talking early to mid 90's games. Got it! Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure that both Quake 2 and Doom 3 worked with WIN 11 because they were both tech updated for use in Steam.

Windows 10 until I'm forced to go to Windows 11.

My biggest issue:

Converting my Windows drive to UEFI boot, without losing my Windows 10 install and being able to upgrade to Windows 11. Once I figure out how to safely do this, then I may convert.

I don't want to convert. I wish we could upgrade to Win 11 without the UEFI requirement. I don't care to reinstall all my stuff, or download backups from the cloud of the /user tree.

Not to mention Windows 11 spyware.

I'm usually an early adopter and upgrade as soon as.

My only regret was Vista 64 attack

I upgrade when the new OS appears. I had W11 Pro immediately it appeared. Pro gives the user more choices.

FWIW: I saw no Gaming improvements with W11. And, in some cases, W11 is more painful to use than W10. In some cases W11 tries to make you do things for Microsoft's benefit -- not yours. That behavior has increased with time. By the way, there may be some improvements, but they have not been obvious when playing.

So, W10 Gaming users are not making a mistake by staying with W10 for Gaming (assuming their game still runs on W10) -- in my opinion.

But, I might add, W11 is not so "evil" that it has caused me to give moving back to W10 any thought.
