Game show host Chuck Woolery of 'Wheel of Fortune,' 'Love Connection,' dies at 83

Chuck Woolery, former game show host of "Wheel of Fortune," "Love Connection" and "Scrabble," has died at the age of 83.

Woolery died at his home in Texas in the presence of his wife, Kristen, his friend and podcast co-host Mark Young told The Associated Press. Along with his wife, Woolery is survived by his sons Michael and Sean and his daughter Melissa.

"Chuck Woolery was without doubt the Real Deal. Our 7 years as the original host and hostess on Wheel of Fortune were like magic," Susan Stafford, who was Chuck Woolery's co-host on "Wheel of Fortune," said in a statement to Fox News.

"Our deep friendship continued after our time on the show," the statement continued. "He was an original. There was no one like Chuck. He had so much energy and was the same warm caring genuine person offstage as he was on. He was very spiritual and we shared a true love for God which made it even more worthwhile. So grateful to know I will see him again."

I remember watching Chuck in the 70's and early 80's. He was a good host.

Today I learned before Pat Sajak and Vanna White, it was Chuck Woolery and Susan Stafford hosting the Wheel Of Fortune

When I was sick and had to stay home from school as a kid, all that was on TV during the day were soap operas and game shows, so I'd watch the game shows, and saw Chuck Woolery hosting Wheel Of Fortune. Back then you'd win the money during the game, but after each puzzle you'd have to buy prizes until what you had left was not enough to buy the cheapest item, and you could get it on a gift certificate.

I watched other, largely forgotten shows too, like High Rollers hosted by Alex Trebek, Gambit hosted by Wink Martindale and Card Sharks hosted by Jim Perry.

Yes, but I was just referencing the lesser-known shows. There was also Match Game, [Some Money] Pyramid (I think it started off at $10,000), and Let's Make a Deal, among others.

RIP He seemed like a pretty decent guy based on the few interviews I've seen with him. Having said that, the two game show hosts that have the most enduring place in my childhood memories are Richard Dawson and Bob Barker.
