The last few years when my wife and I eat out we tend to go to a Mexican restaurant 6-7 out of 10 times. The rest of the time is about evenly divided among traditionally American (beef/chicken), BBQ and the occasional Japanese. I can't remember the last time we ate Chinese, it's been a decade at least.

What's everyone's favorite cuisine?

For me, it's difficult to say because I like variety, but overall I'd say Italian. I don't eat it often because it's usually not healthy, but I could almost always enjoy some good spaghetti or lasagna. A well-seasoned steak is always good too.

Yeah I love Italian too. Likewise I don't eat much of it due to the carbs. I've been on a low carb diet all year and one thing I can eat a lot is fajitas, hence part of the reason we eat Mexican a lot.

We do eat a lot of pizza at home. Take two low carb burrito size tortillas stacked atop one another, put a bit of mozzarella between them, sauce (lowest sugar/carbs you can find) on top, more mozzarella, pepperoni and bake at 500 for about 8 minutes, finish off with high broil for about 3 minutes.... man that is GOOD, and only about 10-15 carbs if you ate the entire thing by yourself! Wife and I usually split it about 40/60 wink

But I do miss spaghetti and manicotti.

I’d say David. We grew up together and stayed in touch over the years. Lost touch with almost all the others.

I like a lot of different types of food but if I had to pick a favorite cuisine it would be Cajun. Nothing beats a well made shrimp or crawfish etouffee! Shrimp poboy's are great too.

You made me look, I very well could have written "cousin" but I didn't!

I could be pretty happy with that choice too, I would miss the heat of Mexican however. Maybe some Wasabi would help wink

I don't think I could eat Mexican long term without changing my nickname to "El Gordo", whereas Japanese strikes a great balance between being tasty and healthy.

I like Japanese but much prefer Thai or Vietnamese.

Just back from three weeks in Japan. In those three weeks ate more raw fish than I have in the rest of my life. Loved it. So I'll have to say Japanese!

Don't forget that the Japanese also do things like beef and salmon steaks really well along with the sushi, tempura, gyoza, teriyaki and all the other stuff they're usually known for.

I really like certain Thai and Vietnamese dishes but the Japanese have them beat overall IMO.

A trip to Japan is definitely on my bucket list. Since you were there for 3 weeks did you pick up on the language at all?

Not much, just the usual - thank you, thank you very much, good morning, hello, goodbye, numbers below 10. Many Japanese have good basic English understanding if not speaking. Google translate widely used...
The people are very helpful, polite and accommodating which goes a long way. They greatly appreciate equal politeness back.

I found a good introduction to Japan was 'Abroad in Japan' by Chris Broad.

I second the Chris Broad channel. Often entertaining with some good tidbits on traveling around Japan. I just wish I lived somewhere where they served Japanese curry.
