Scoured the forum here but found very little on the subject. I understand that the program may limit skins from appearing in order to conserve memory. When the flight is smaller (6 aircraft) there seems to be a slightly increased chance of a squadmates custom skin appearing, although as you can see from the attached pic, the flight of 3 was entirely devoid of ace skins. When the entire Jasta goes up (10-12) aircraft, a great many ace skins reset to sqd default. Haven't found any discernible pattern yet and my latest Hun is 35 missions into 1918. January 1 start.

As an experiment I removed huge numbers of German ace skins - I'm flying in Jasta 18 at present - but that didn't have any apparent effect.

Is there a way to force things without blowing up the program? I did see an MVRcraft.txt file for MVR which spells out which aircraft and skins he used and when. Located here:

C:\OBDSoftware\WOFF\OBDWW1 Over Flanders Fields\campaigns\CampaignData\Aces\Aircraft

I also note that the file in question is xxcraft.txt in MVR's entry on the list of German Aces. Is this a relic of earlier versions or something I might muck about with? Could I for instance replicate the appropriate skins for a lesser light, say the oft excluded Walter Dingel, and build a similar craft file for him?

I don't recall this happening with my previous DiD3 character who spent many months among the greats in 56 RFC.

So many gorgeous historic skins made with such herculean effort by the skinners. Unfortunate that they don't always get seen when they should.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

It really depends on a lot on what else is out in the world. How many other squadrons using the same A/C, how many other aces etc. So sometimes there are only some Aces that can be shown in you flight as some need to be reserved for the other aces seen in the skies around you.

The aircraft folder in the Aces folder you mention is a NEW feature. For any Ace that has that a similar file, you can specify aircraft, and what skins are used when for that Ace - again with the variable limit as above though.

Thanks Pol.

Part of the issue, as it turns out, was me being a dummkopf and failing to notice which specific aircraft skins were actually available for the Jasta 18 Aces. There are so many! Meine Gott Im Himmel! Turns out Dingel and several others didn't have a DVa skin, nor did Turck and Von Buttlar have a DV Uprated so I added ones from Jerbear's Skin Pack 10 and <drum roll> See attached pic. Deberitz and Dingel were at the end of the line so they fall victim to memory conservation, but in other experiments with smaller flights their skins showed up.

I shall experiment with this exciting NEW Craft.txt feature.

Thanks for bringing that up. Thanks to you both.

Still, I'm too much of a skeerdiekat to mess with the aircraft folders any more than I have already.

My theory is that the program has become sentient and gets mad at me.
