Who has spotted one?

Anyone take the plunge and... buy a pro?

All my VR activities take place inside my home. Like civilized folk.

I don't even know what it does but I'm absolutely positive I don't need or want one.

On the way back to the office I just drove through the Clemson University campus. It is a nice warm day and the beautiful young ladies were out walking between classes. Four of them were standing at a corner waiting to cross the street and a young guy was walking up the sidewalk toward them. He was wearing big bulky headphones.... I thought "Dude, take those off and talk to those girls!" And then I noticed all the girls, and practically everyone else on campus, has earbuds in their ears and/or their face glued to their phone.

I'm so glad these things weren't around when I was 18-20 years old.

It looks like they're making it way too easy to have them stolen.

I predict it may go into obscurity as did 'Google Glass'

Eh, there's always someone who will walk about looking like that, but it's far from everyone smile

Maybe when they start to look like ordinary sunglasses.

As an aside, I read an interesting observation the other day - as ubiquitous and essential as modern phones have become, they never appear in dreams. I don't know about never, but I know I never have dreamt of my phone, and neither has anyone I've asked.

I don't think this (spatial computing) is going away.

The Apple Vision Pro is too pricey for a lot of people, but that also gives it cache' with people that have money to burn on seeking status. The form factor is off-putting to many, but again, for some who seek attention that is another plus. And Apple is a marketing force to be reckoned with.

For folks who want something more in line with glasses that don't depart so far from current eyewear fashion, there is the Xreal (formerly Nreal) Air 2 Ultra coming out soon. Xreal already has Augmented Reality in the same form factor (Xreal Air 2 Pro), but the Ultra looks to be getting into the same sort of additional capabilities as the Apple Vision Pro without resorting to the goggles form.

Apple Vision Pro vs Xreal Air 2 Ultra – how are they different?

I'm really curious to see how well it works if somebody tries the Xreal Air 2 Ultra with DCS world. I haven't been on Eagle Dynamics site to see if anyone has tried it with the Xreal Air Pro version yet. Xreal's Beam add-on pretty much enable's interfacing the glasses to most computing platforms.

-----------------

As for walking around in a city... I suspect we will start seeing reports of people getting mugged for the Apple Vision Pro. People have done worse for less expensive shoes after all.

However good full self driving has gotten for vehicles, it hasn't reached the point where people should be goofing around with distracting games while behind the wheel. Self-driving may eventually reach a point of effectiveness and public acceptance to allow that, but we are not there yet.

Personally, I don't favor being that distracted from my surroundings while out in public. I don't even block my hearing in public, let alone my vision.

Perhaps when they are contact lens inserts. Then, maybe...

As for dreams, I cannot recall ever having a phone in my dreams.

@CyBerkut, I think the robberies will be a thing. $3500.00+ in hardware on the head? Yeah. That's getting stolen.

I am sure Apple has encryption blah blah blah tracking to lock them down, but that hasn't stopped folks in the past from unlocking other devices. And besides, the field of view obstruction will make them easy prey for their wallets, phones, and other stuff that isn't locked down.

I don't have one don't want one, but why would I judge anyone who does? I don't consult others about how I go about my business in public.

I do quite regularly, and I find it really strange because I hate phones and rarely have mine on me. But maybe that's the actual reason because the recurring dream is I'm trying to use my phone and the OS is just some insanely cryptic mess that I can't figure out, like an extreme exaggeration of how it is in real life for me (I VERY strongly prefer using a PC for my digital life). You know those dreams you get when you have the flu or a fever? Where you're trying to do something or another and you Just Can't Do It? It's like that.

It's not that I can't operate a phone, I just find them incredibly annoying compared to a computer...

Another strange one - I almost never swim. I think I've swam twice in the past 20 years. Yet I also have a recurring dream of jumping into some water, wearing shorts, and realizing my phone is in my pocket. This one REALLY confuses me, because that would seem to imply some background "phone deprivation anxiety" that you might expect of 90% of the population these days, yet I'm absolutely not like that at all.

I'm known for not replying to a text until the next day, or even sometimes TWO...

If you've spunked $3500 on something, you need to flaunt it...at least they think they do.

I just think that it top tier narcissistic behavior, half the time it'll be their buddy filming you know for those clicks. It at some point will get robbed off them and you will start seeing this behavior happen less and less. Avoid these people at all costs.

My thought when I first saw the news last week about it:

Someone will get robbed and maybe hurt or killed for it.

Someone will hurt themselves and others while wearing it and driving it;

or while wearing it and walking and not paying attention to the real surrounding and walk into moving traffic.
