This one changed my mind on King almost 180 degrees. I still think he should have stopped the Court Martial of Captain McVay but I now know there was no family animosity involved as I had believed for 30+ years.

Just read some details into the MCVay court martial and what an utter travesty of justice that was. The USN really dropped the ball on that one and ironically, it was the testimony from the Japanese submarine commander who sank the Indianapolis that helped McVay's case. I was also very glad to read that US Congress officially exonerated McVay in 2000.

A little late for McVay, who shot himself in 1968 after 2 decades of hate mail from LAS family. I've seen the scene photos, a small sailor figure lying on the steps near his hand. Incredibly sad.

But the story I heard for decades was that King was reprimanded by McVays father once and King had it out for McVay. Toti explains how that's not possible.
