Hi all,
The 'HPH Models' 1:32nd scale resin model of the Italian Macchi M.5 float plane.
This is a commission build for the Commander of the Italian Frigate 'Federico Martinengo'.
His ship was named after the Italian naval pilot of WW1, Federico Carlo Martinengo.
I've previously built a version of this model and have a build log on my web site.
The only real differences between the two models will be the aircraft markings.
As such, I'll not create a detailed build log for this model here on the forum, just progress shots,

Mike

Nice as usual! Are those Vickers turned sideways? Or are they Italian guns?

Hi Rick,
Some sources state Vickers, but I think they were probably Fiat machine guns,

Hi all
I've replaced the kit supplied 'Z' struts between the engine support frame and underside of the upper wing.
The kit struts don't align correctly with their attachment points and not every strut has a protruding locating rod.
The replacement struts are Brass tube (formed to an aerofoil profile) with internal rod.

Porco Rosso would be proud!

* also the mirror surface really messed me up for a minute, there. I thought you had added in some portal technology too!

Such wonderful work! I swear I was beginning to suffer withdrawals since the last posting in December, and almost got the shakes. LOL

How are you going to get the little leather jacket around the pilot figure, and the gloves on his hands? LOL

Hi all
The final part of the Macchi M.5 is now fitted.
This is a real wood laminated propeller with metal erosion tips.
It was made by Alexey Belov at 'Proper Plane', based in Ukraine.

I'll post completed model shots soon,

Mike

Hi all,
The Macchi M.5, Serial No.7242 as flown by Tenente di Vascello Federico Carlo Martinengo, Officer Commanding No.260a Squadriglia, operating from Saint Andrea Seaplane Station near Venice during 1918.

As usual a detailed build log in PDF format can be viewed or downloaded from the 'Logs' page on my web site.

Those wood laminate propellers do seem to be worth the wait. This looks awesome. I see that my old archenemy, Colonel Sapt, has left Ruritania to fly for the Italians wink
