A brief history of EAW Code Group releasesWhat came before 1.6? The EAW Code Group has been developing EAW since 2008. Find out about the various releases and download examples of EAW 128C (first released 2009) and EAW 129 (first released 2013) See http://mogggy.org/TheGen2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6229Where to get the latest version of 1.6UAW 160 is the most up to date and expansive version of EAW, providing many different theatres of WWII action, and an expansive inventory of WWII aircraft. Get the most recent version here: See: http://mogggy.org/TheGen2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6184How 1.6 works - Where is everything? See how UAW 1.6 works, where the files are stored, and about the modding utilities supplied in the download See http://mogggy.org/TheGen2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6223How to use 1.2 skins in 1.6There are, at least, hundreds of aircraft skins made by EAW modders over the last two decades. Many are very fine hi-res skins. You can use them in 1.6. This is how: see: http://mogggy.org/TheGen2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6239

Thanks for posting this, Moggy! This is extremely interesting reading for me. I was "current" with EAW development until my Windows 7 days when I could no longer get the sim to work. This does a brilliant job of filling in the gaps and helping me understand what 160 is all about.
Cheers mate!

You're welcome Capt.
We're planning a few more posts setting out "how to do stuff" with 1.6.

I'm usually more interested in the modding process for these old games rather than actually playing them, so is there more detail on the tools used and the rationale for using them? For instance, I notice 1.60 is compiled using VC++ 6.0. The effort to migrate it to VS2022 is probably vast, but can Visual Studio 6.0 even be installed on Windows 10/11?

Have a look at the linked posts. They designed to show a history of Code Group development of the game, from the point of view of what is available to players, and also how the latest, 1.6, is organised. So the posts are not directed at compilation and modifying the game at that level.. However, as one who has had some involvement in compilation, though never the principal I can say that the work is normally done now with the older compiler in an emulated setting. For example I have used Oracle VM Virtual Box in Windows 10, with a Windows XP emulation.

I use Oracle too in Win 10 with XP emulation

We use it to run old EAW utilities that will not run in Windows 7 or Windows 10

I understand, but it would annoy me to have to rely on some old platform even if it's in a VM. The exception are DOS programs which are well catered for by Dosbox which itself runs natively on Win10/11/Linux.
Anyway, it's your gig and you've achieved great things...and this thread points to some excellent documentation.

Good old DOSBOX. I actually use it (as well) to run some of those old EAW utilities Jelly mentions. DOSBOX and batch files. Still do the job. Anyway, it's your gig and you've achieved great things...and this thread points to some excellent documentation.
