CARL EBER RETURNS 1 MAY!Today I’ll be adding some new things to the DIND Companion:
He has been currently reassigned to Saxon Jagdstaffel 54s. So I am adding character lists for Jasta 54s and 56, additional information on some of the already introduced characters, and an expanded Glossary.
In the upcoming new posts you’ll find many more German aviation slang terms and phrases, along with a number of idioms used by the German people at that time.
These have been harvested from German language memoirs and novels, mostly written in the 1920s and 30s, Jentsch, Buckner, Fuchs, Brzenk and others. Some of these have a definite Nazi slant to them but are very good for my purposes. There are also some stories from these books.
I want to put a plug in here for Editpad. This thing is amazing. You can scan a book or snip one on the net, upload it into this thing and it will lift that text off the page. Then you can either put it in a Word Document or slap it right onto something like Google Translate and, Bobs your Uncle. Amazing, or as Carl would say, “Famos!”
So, if you haven’t heard of this and have books in say, French or German or whatever, that you’ve always wanted to read but didn’t want to spend a year trying to translate the thing. There you go. Your translation will only be as good as the translation software you use, but you can figure it out with the help of a good online dictionary if it isn’t clear.
