Took a few days for me to get to looking at this one. Some good fights and good shooting on Phil's part. Jasta 6 are some of Richthofen's people.
13 Sep 1917 was fortunately a Thursday.
You said something about how when there are a lot of friendlies and only a few Huns that there are multiple claims being put in. I don't know how hard that would be for the Devs, since I know practically nothing about programing anything, I operate a computer like a trained seal makes a set of horns play a tune, but there really should be a partial claim option for the Entente pilots of all three, and future 4 nations represented.
Your three Raggies you landed with were #5 - Kink Kindead; #7 Bregeut Dallas; and #9 Stanly Rosevear.
That was the best explanation of how the claims might work that I've heard so far. That makes sense. Probably if your witness is actually in the area at the time and you get the type right you're probably home free except for maybe a random factor like a dice roll in a board or miniatures war game like we all used to play, back in the day. (used to play; back in the day, I'M A POET!)

I can't claim that one. It's been discussed for a while in various threads. I feel like Louvert and Robert Wiggins were probably in the discussion as well as others and Pol was all like "I can neither confirm nor deny..." I would bet that where the plane goes down relative to your side of the lines probably influences it too.
The older I get, the more I realize I don't need to be Han, Luke or Leia. I'm just happy to be rebel scum...
Yeah, I think claims that couldn't be verified were just not mentioned or only in passing. It was frowned on I know in German Staffels to brag about unverifiable kills. And in the American service, Frank Luke, who was already unpopular was shunned for running his mouth about things no one saw but himself, though much of it may have been true.
I've wondered about those bullet strikes too. You're flying along, as you said, a mile up and suddenly get bullet strikes from a forward headquarters of trench down there. I think maybe it's a glitch. Though I suppose it could represent shrapnel hits if there's Archie going.
Your two Alb DIII OAWs you couldn't claim without looking like you were full of it were from Jasta 37, when Udet was flying with them.

I'm suspicious that it is a glitch as well, since it never seems to damage me.
I'm curious as to whether anyone ever said "I ran into some Albatross scouts and fired at a few that seemed to go down, but I am not officially claiming them as there were no witnesses, but I just wanted to make a complete report." I haven't read a ton or raw mission reports, mostly some from McCudden's book, if I remember...

In one of the stories I was reading in Double Decker C 666, the observer mentioned in his report that they had an air fight, I guess he was explaining the holes in his machine. They had, in fact, shot down a Nieuport about 20 klicks behind French lines on a Recon.
That's the sort of 'in passing' I was taking about, not, "Oh, by the way Old Fruit, I torched three Huns on the way back over the lines for tea."
