I certainly appreciate all the efforts in keeping EAW/UAW alive. Nicely done, and certainly under-appreciated.

As for myself, i have moved on to what I believe are better games, given better computers and far better graphics cards.

I still play UAW/EAW for fun, on occasion. It's necessary to play UAW/EAW on older, less capable computers nowadays; more modern computers have some problems, maybe not. I understand the effort of folks to make UAW/EAW viable with Win 10. I hope equally successful efforts concerning Win 11.

I play more advanced games, on a more modern platform, on a more regular basis. UAW/EAW/ is seldom selected by me. A fun, legacy game, with historical value, but not in the same class, either visually, or graphically, as with more modern games.

My sincere thanks to folks keeping EAW/UAW alive and "viable" even now. It's fun to look into the past, although the future is what we all will encounter, like it or not.

Agreed. I've enjoyed going back thru and seeing all that was done before I stumbled upon the game. Looks like I missed out a bit on the glory years in terms if people playing MP. Oh well. Glad I can enjoy the results still today. smile

I do hope some day a game developer/publisher will take a look at EAW and its holistic world and dynamic campaigns and atmosphere etc and bring its spirit into the modern age.

Sadly many flight sims today have superior graphics and fidelity but almost to a fault. DCS probably being the pinnacle of that. You need to give it some serious time and attention to learn one aircraft reasonably well and a good machine to really enjoy the visuals. Both of these reasons and the cost have kept me out of it.

IL2 Stalingrad and company notches that down a bit but still struggles with the whole having 100s of aircraft in the sky (and probably will never have 4 engined bombers or drop tanks) and doesn't really have a dynamic campaign (although the Finnish server does pretty good).

IL2 1946 I think is the closest to EAW but I believe even it can struggle a bit with aircraft numbers and campaign immersion and at this point has its own share of struggles on newer computers at times. However, it still seems to have a thriving community of modders and semi official support (although those two groups are often at odds sadly).

With that said, it all depends on my mood and what friend(s) are available to play as to what I'll pick out of the three. smile

Well, with a hat tip to Mr. Twain, the news of EAW's death has been greatly exaggerated.

A few of us are still at it, producing new aircraft, upgrading old ones, refining flight models, adding new weapons, making small refinements to the 1.6 development line and at least one new theater of operation.

Stay tuned, the fat lady has not sung.

Combat Pilot is on the horizon, 18 months to 3 years away. Nice to have a new pacific flight sim on the way though.

DCS is my go to atm, Fw190 i'm still learning and the mission builder is fantastic and very intuitive. Easy to get 30 or so B17s with escorts in the air to practice gun runs on, and maxed out it is a stunning looking sim. Especially with the multitude of cloud and weather effects, best i've flown in.

Besides that their is Task Force Admiral which is my most anticipated game in a long time. Well worth reading through that site, the devs are making something great with this one.

And even the EAW Launchpad is still having fun with some updates of the older stuff and the latest creations for the Final Cut. Great to see everyone is happy and having fun!

What a strange way to express your opinion about people, but good to know and very enlightening and mysterious too, thx! Sorry if I don't grasp who it's directed at. Feel free to explain.

Well in that case here's my Shakespearean quote:

“All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players.” smile

I guess that puts all of us in our rightful place eh?

Not sure if I'll be around as we're flying a few on line missions again with EAWPRO and have some fun with above carrier, but I'll drop in from time to time to see if there's more 'interesting' stuff to read, smile Must dash, toodle pip!

My regrets for causing a kerfuffle. Always my respects for those who keep EAW alive, in all its' iterations.

As for myself, I much prefer more modern games with faster game speeds along with vastly better graphics.

Granted more modern computers and Gfx cards are required to play such games, but progress marches on....

I'll save my ancient Win 7 computer (highly upgraded) for EAW/UAW. I'll use my win 10/Win 11 computer for future games.

Might be possible to have it all.

All best wishes to all my friends!

I came across this article when searching to see if the EAW source code was available anywhere.

No SC unfortunately, but this is a great bit of nostalgia.
