Hey guys, I just checked the EECHCentral link and it goes to a strange foreign language website. Did it get hijacked?
Maybe it should be redirected to https://eech.online/

I noticed this also.

Personally, I use this link: EECH Categories

although am not sure if some of the pages are not missing.

As a side note, I would add my vote to try to preserve the knowledge of EECH in any way we can and given the availability of the Source Code try to revitalize this helicopter simulation if it is only possible. Over the past 2 decades, a lot has been added and modded in this game and it would be IMHO a shame that this all would stall and slowly be forgotten.

There are only very few decent helicopter simulators around and most of them seem to be a rather dying breed. EECH got so far the longest mileage since its inception and perhaps it should be somehow continued. What do you think?

Hi,

The problem was a lack of developers wanting to spend their time on this. For a while there were a group of people who seemed to only complain about things that were wrong (and had been for a long time) and nit picked at any mods. The developers got fed up and left.

I agree that EECH is a brilliant helo sim even though it had problems and I'd love to see it continue.

Unfortunately, although I have done some programming over the years, I am not a modder and that's what it needs.

Cheers,

Andy

It is rather clear that EECH is not as popular as once was. Unfortunately, that is how it goes.

However, EECH has a unique situation in that the source code is available and that has been under the "microscope" sufficiently long to properly probe and evaluate the helicopter flight model and its specific differences from the regular fixed-wing airplanes.

If this expertise is still available, this knowledge alone ought to be preserved at all costs. Especially its program and code representation.

It's a real pity if EECH Allmods dies, but there seems to be nobody who has the ability to program and is interested in further developing this great helicopter simulation.

To be precise, EECH Allmods is the ONLY military helicopter sim besides DCS, everything else is either still from the W9X era (and very hard or impossible to get running on modern PC - like Janes Longbow Series) or they are more action sims like Air Missions: Hind, Apache Air Assault or War Thunder.

I personally hope for Microprose and a new edition of the Gunship series, but if and when and especially how it will come (Simulation or Action-Sim) is also the question. With DCS, although I'm a real freak, the realism, or the time until a single module is finally released, not to mention until it's out of Early Access, is just way too excessive. We are talking about 5-6 years or even more. That's just sick for a computer game, even if it's a simulation! I want to fly these things while I'm still alive and not pass them on to my son. And in the meantime you can invest endless money to fly these unfinished modules with reasonable framerates, because they are constantly screwing around with the engine and instead of making it more performant they just add new eye-candy that eats up performance again.

With EECH Allmods, I could do 3D models for the cockpits, but anything programming related, I'll have to pass. I don't have a clue about that. I can't even get the instruments in the cockpit to work, here I had to rely on help from another community member when I made the new KA-50 cockpit for EECH Allmods.

Yes, I hear you Guys and understand that the EECH community is not active as it used to be. And this is the key to keeping the juices going. Just like in real life, to gather some interest in great simulations from the past there is necessary a critical mass of people with enthusiasm, interest in the subject matter, different talents, skills, and general expertise and discipline in modding.

I am coming with some taste in pretty hardcore modding from BMS and can recognize and confirm that in the period of recent 2 decades, EECH came as close to that level of TLC, and long-term commitment, as anything similar out there.
This is why I see with sadness that the flame is only flickering here and (as in the main subject of this thread) the repository of knowledge has been abandoned and is being slowly dismantled.

Perhaps it is not too late to try to rekindle the interest in this great helicopter combat title. Perhaps recent new general advances in AI (chatGPT etc.) could offer new avenues of not only preserving, but also adding to this gem whether in new mods, code, or just continuing discussions about it.

I feel it is worth the time and it is strongly recommended!

Thank you for these very interesting and important documents.

Also my personal thanks for your work on hover hold /stable hover and altitude popups which made for me most important difference in how EECH was played.
Your work made me realize that in EECH there might be many more similar areas of improvement left despite the passage of time.

You're very welcome! It was fun modding the flight controls and physics, I had to fix it so it would fly correctly for me too!
