Not much info is out yet since this film is still under production but I have extremely good vibes about this latest project by Ridley. Check out the couple of photos with Joaquin Phoenix in full uniform!

Ridley Scott generally makes good movies and Joaquin Phoenix is a good actor so this could be good.
Will it have 40,000 extras running around in the battle scenes like Waterloo? I think not. That would be too bad, because that was quite the spectacle.

Napoleon is short. This Joaquin is tall and is always the bad Gladiator emperor. Bad casting.

Napoleon was 1.69 m tall. Phoenix is 1.73 m, a difference of 5cm (just under 2 inches). Hardly a great difference to be honest.

While he was technically 5'2", that was in the old French units which converts to about 5'7" which was not short for the day.

In the cast list there’s an actor who will be playing von Blucher so there just might be some portrayal of Waterloo.

Not sure where you got that info, he was most likely 1.57m which is 5'2". You can see some of his uniforms in museums and you can clearly see he was a very small man. I think I have a pic somewhere with me next to his uniform, I'll try to find it.
LE:
Here it is. I'm 1.87m (that's ~6' 1 1/2") tall. Consider the angle, how much the uniform is off the ground and you can see I'm as tall as Napoleon with that ridiculous bicorn on. He was tiny, probably like me at 13 years old or smth, and I don't mean just in height (that's a young Napoleon uniform btw).

Probably the best director of the current crop for the task. Especially if it has the cinematic beauty of 'The Duelists', which i believe is high on the list of your favourite films Panzer, as it is on mine.
Hard to match the spectacle of the battle scenes of 'Waterloo' these days, mayhap.

Learned something new.

That's a great photo Korn. Seriously, I think that uniform on display would have only fit me when I was around 8 years old. biggrin

Oh yes, absolutely. When it comes to Napoleonic era films, "The Duellists" is about as good as it gets.

We inherited some Edwardian attire from my wife's Great Aunts.
What we thought were doll's clothes, so small they were, were revealed as toddler garments worn by her Great Grandfather by photographs seen. Younger boys were garbed similar to girls then, until they went to school.
A ball gown, worn by Susan's Great Grandmother could just about fit my daughters when they were 8 y.o. and they were average sized children.

Even her Grandfather's No.1 Dress uniform from WW1 Middlesex Regiment) I couldn't get the close-fitting breeches above my knees, and I'm not fat!

During WW1, the British Army formed 'Bantam Regiments' to get round the minimum height requirement of 5'3", to enable many small volunteers to enlist, mainly from metropoli where malnourishment, childhood diseases and pollution were rife, causing stunted growth in many children at the time.

This is a FAN MADE trailer, not an official trailer but it was very well done nonetheless in my opinion. See if you can name all the films where these scenes come from. smile

In my opinion Phoenix is right up there with Gary Oldman, Daniel Day Lewis and Jack Nicholson in acting ability.

Wasn't that difference in measurements why you folks fought ol Boney to begin with?
