Most sources I've read have mentioned that the Duke of Wellington was 5"8 so I would imagine that there would have been some kind of push to make Napoleon seem as short as possible. wink

Here is some more information on the film.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napoleon_(2023_film)

One thing that really got me excited was the mention that this film will have 6 battle sequences. The Siege of Toulon is mentioned in the article so we know one of the battle sequences.

The only possible negative aspect I see for some potential viewers is that this will be released on the Apple streaming service. Right now there is no indication that this will have a theatrical release.

I assume the scene with the French soldiers thinking they were on solid ground instead of ice on a river or lake is during the Invasion of Russian. What battle was it?

It was during the long arduous RETREAT from Russia. Napoleon invaded Russia with roughly 600,000 men. He had about 18,000 left by the time he left Russia.

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

On a related note, it's just staggering to me that "Gladiator" came out 23 years ago. That's the film where I first discovered Joaquin's acting genius.

Interesting article here concerning the film and historical accuracy in general.

IMHO, I think the complaints by the historian are nitpicks except for the one of Napoleon being present when Antoinette was executed.

At least Ridley Scott hasn't succumbed to 'Wokery'.
