After releasing test versions of the UAW160 basic some users suggested that I make a new one which shows off some of the UAW160 features.
So I have done that. This is the "Readme.txt" which is included:

22nd September 2022:
This is a version that re-places the previous one
The exes have been replaced by better ones.
I have not changed the skins.

**********************************************************************************

=======================================================
This is an attempt to re-create the default eaw 1.2 set up
in UAW160, but including some of the features of UAW160.

The theatre and aircraft are the same as in 1.2.

The selection screens are 1024x768 and not 640x480

The two aircraft selection screens list the flyable allied and
axis planes. The bombers are flyable too.

The aircraft skins are multiskins.

The mission time and date can be set, and the appropriate
seasonal terrain set will be loaded based on the date.

*************************************************************
There are always two versions of the UAW160 exe.

The old map version uses the same map as EAW 1.2
with the fixed 640x320 tile-map
The new map version was brought in when tile-maps
which were not 640x320 became possible.
The version installed is the new map version.

If you want to use the old map version then
open the "OldMapExe" folder, copy the "eaw.exe" file
and paste it into the root folder, letting it overwrite
the existing "eaw.exe".
Similarly, to return to the new map version, you can
copy the "eaw.exe" in the "NewMapExe" folder, and
paste it in the root folder.

=======================================================

The download is only 212 megabytes and you can get it here:
UAW160 equivalent of the 1.2 version download

Run the downloaded "UAW160_Simple.exe" self installer wherever you want to install the folder

It will create a stand-alone "160Simple" folder, but you may need to replace the "eaw.ini" file with yours. Mine suits a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro J/S
The installed folder is only 462 megabytes!

I made a video for Utube of a mission to show how this version can be used for a host-only multiplayer mission.

There are three parts:

Setting up

Flying the mission

De-briefing screen

The setting up part is useful for people with the fill UAW160 who want to try host only playing wink

Oh boy! I am looking forward to trying it later. biggrin

I did notice that in your videos you have the in mission tally go up as you make kills but post mission it didn't list what aircraft you shot down. Is there a way to have it do both?

Looks good! Didn't have too much time today but checked all the aircraft out at least.

If I may give a couple minor suggestions, the BF109G2 isn't multiskined and best I can tell, doesn't have any? However, I think 1.2 actually had the G6, which does have a multiskin plane set. The B24D is multiskin but also includes the original low res aircraft which while showing the massive improvements, certainly sticks out. I also did note that the Ju-88c6 isn't multiskinned but looking thru the full 160, doesn't look like it ever was?

I did note that all the P38H skins had invisibility issues with OpenGL. And oddly some BF109K-4s had issues but others were perfectly fine? For some reason I'd been under the impression it was a 3Dmodel issue, not a skinning issue when it came to OpenGL sometimes having partially see thru aircraft?

I am curious, how hard/what is required to fix the OpenGL aircraft see thru issues? Potentially I'd be open to slowly going thru and fixing them as time allows as it seems with newer post Win7 computers, OpenGL gives the better FPS unless you have a non Nivida card?

Thanks again for doing this Jel. smile

Some modders only make skins for d3d. They do not have glide, so they do not test that their skins are compatible.
If I recall correctly even some of the original 1.2 release skins has glide issues.
There is no easy fix.

That is a bummer there is no easy fix.

If I found skins that do work, how would one go about swapping them in or making a multi skin set? I also experimented with trying to swap the G6 in for the G2 but game didn't see it in single mission or multiplayer so I still got things to learn hehe. Although I suspect the simple install reads things a bit differently than the full 160?

If I recall, the GLIDE problem manifest on horizontal surfaces, specifically the wings and elevators.

I'm one of those who didn't have GLIDE so I never worried about it as I couldn't do anything about it anyway.

Interesting, when this issue was brought to light I happened to be working on the F2a Buffalo which was going to showcase the new add-on 3dz's that had recently been added to the 1.6 exe line.

My idea was to break the plane up into smaller pieces so that the textures could be given more detail since each piece of the plane covered a smaller area.

I switched gears during the discussion to tackle the seemingly intractable problem by "bandaiding" it rather than finding the elusive root cause.

What I did was make the bottom of the wing a different 3dz from the top of the wing so that even if the GLIDE problem was present, and it was on this model, there wouldn't be an underside texture to show through the top side because they were on different 3dz's.

I had to ship the model off to another modder for confirmation but it did indeed work.

The real problem was that the fix came too late. We were bleeding modders at the time and it would have required a lot of work by a lot of people to convert all the planes.

Unfortunately there is a frame rate problem in Windows 10 which is why I prefer Windows 7.
There is also the issue of no horizon fog with nvidia cards in all versions of EAW.
Running in Glide fixes both these problems, but then the skin problem rears its ugly head frown
