Those WW2 warbirds look fantastic. If it wasn't for the fact I'm heavily invested in IL-2 stock I'd buy into DCS WW2 as well.
Honestly Chucky, DCS is fun for very short periods of time. It looks very good obviously and honestly its' FMs feel pretty good but overall it is just shallow and quite buggy or unfinished IMHO. I Love taking pics so for me it is fun every once in a while and I might use it for 2 weeks maybe, but I always get bored with it rather quickly. I am a SP person FWIW. I must say though that the Channel & Normandy Maps are very nice. Now if they just had a career or Dynamic Campaign. Maybe someday as I hear there are rumblings of the latter be developed as we speak.
I've not seen DCS in a long time but its hard to believe they've not come up with a proper campaign yet if they've not done so. It seems like they could hire a writer, a really skilled writer with a love of aviation history as well as menu artists and come up with an engaging campaign even if its just single mission based. Having something to interact with akin to the old sims would do wonders for the imagination and depth of the sim.

I agree. I like it, but the missions seem boring, although I haven't fully delved into a lot of them, but that's because the ones I tried didn't impress me. But it does look good, and it's fun to play around with for short periods. They keep adding things, like the new 2.7 (but it crashes on me a lot so far), and new aircraft and terrains, so I keep thinking that the ingredients are being added, and at some point, it will come together as a complete meal .

More screenshots please less talk. lol just kidding. Though I will say while DCS does have good visuals, it's audio stands out and lends as much to the immersion. Nothing like the roar of a P 47, or better yet a flight of P 47s.
That's a great pic Bisher. This may seem like a daft question but what aircraft can you fly off the carrier? I only have the AV-8B,no FA-18 or F-14. I also have FC3.
AV8B is definitely carrier capable. With a light enough load it is frigate capable The free A-4 mod is very good and is carrier capable. There is also the Kusenotzov, which a few other planes can take off from - Viggen and F-5 I've seen done (taxi to the very back of the deck and go).
Other carrier capable aircraft (meaning catapult attachment and hook) are the F/A-18C and F-14.
You will have to excuse my terrible noobyness on the intricacies of DCS as it is something that I have only dabbled with on and off over the years. In fact I have yet to even fly the AV-8B as I just picked it up when I saw it in a sale (along with FC3).
Learning this sim is on my 'to do' list and has been since 2008 I'm ashamed to say
I took the plunge with 2.7 tonight. Had a little fun with it also. The clouds are the best in the business right now. Can't wait to see the new weather system in CLOD. Here are a few first impression pics I took.

Baby steps + Chuck's guide is the way to do it. Choose a plane, and choose a simple thing to learn. So take the harrier, and learn to start it up. Then take off from a runway. Then land on a runway. And so on. Just set a small goal each time you load it up. At first I tried to learn it by a 'today I will learn the A-10' method. It didn't go well. Once I started doing 'Today I will learn to use laser guided mavericks on the A-10' it went much better.
I do believe that is an antenna if I am not mistaken. That actual is a REALLY bad mismatch. I cannot see how the creators of this module could put so much time and effort(the P47 looks absolutely awesome) into this plane and then create a damage effect so bad and then release it to paying customers. I would be ashamed that I had anything to do with that. Nice picture though Bisher. Flying the Jug in DCS really gives the feeling of a heavy plane to me. I think they did a good job over all except this obvious blemish.

Edit: Yea agreed, evolution is a constant with DCS. They should fix it soon in the next ten years or so.
Not to get too distracted in the screenshot forum, but this is what beta is all about. The damage model evolves just like the rest of the game. And ya evolution can be a long, long, slow process
Well, when my tail gets blown off I don't have time to inspect it to see if it matches whats left of my plane... I'm too busy cleaning up my whisky shandy that I've knocked over when everything went 'BANG'...
I've been getting more into it, and getting my controls set up. I just programmed my Logitech G13 for the ICP, and it works pretty well. I've got a Warthog, the Thrustmaster MFDs, and the G13, and it just seems more immersive to me than using the mouse to click the buttons.
And working on some of the combat systems...

I recorded a video over the Syrian coast, recording as I was flying, so the tracking isn't always the best. You can see the framerate drop as I fly low over the city.

OK, this is just me being stupid, but I have a print on my wall called "Stung By A Hornet," and it was used for the cover of the Hornet manual for Falcon 3.0, and even though I am flying the F-16C, I decided to try to replicate it as much as I could.

Yes Trooper, Hypoxemia. Last night was the first time I had expienced this in DCS. Once I figured out how to turn on the oxygen it took like 2 or more minutes before it cleared up. IMHO, a nice touch by ED. I won't have to worry about that in the Mossie now will I.
It's Mossie Friday! What a beauty and honestly pretty easy to take off and fly. Landing I have not tried, but I did get her down to like 140mph and she just flew like a dream. Tomorrow, learn engine operation parameters and learn to land. Then, Destroy stuff!
Trooper, yes the Mossie is only in Beta right now as an early release. I know you are a smart simmer as I have seen you lurking in all of the Forums for a very long time. I think you might be shying away from Beta, as I always did, but this might help to ease your mind about making the leap into using Betas in DCS. I found this third party App, made by Skatzilla, DCS Updater Utility. Once 2.7 came out and bisher, Dam-n you Bisher! , shamed me into trying the DCS 2.7 Cloud update beta by posting those awesome first pictures of the new cloud rendering update in this thread, I had to find a way to try it out. I don't keep up with DCS or its' updating process for the Beta releases and so I had no idea how to do it, and even after reading how to do it through the Official DCS method I was skeptical and was leery of not knowing how to revert back to a stable version if the Beta was messed up or I didn't like it. I wanted to try that cloud update bad so I installed this utility and without reading any directions, go figure , I learned how to update my one and only DCS install to the Beta. Once on the correct tab, it took one click and I was done. I have now used it to perform I think 3 or 4 Beta updates and each time it has worked flawlessly, and honestly if I can do it, it has to be easy, and for a seasoned Veteran such as yourself it should be a snap. Here are a couple of pics of 1. The Home page showing the current install, and 2. The page where you perform the Beta updates. Hope this helps and gives you any easy mind towards updating and getting in the Mossie, as I know you must be champing at the bit to take the old Girl up. The only bug I have noted that might make you raise your eyebrow(in DCS, not the Utility) is that the Mossie will for no known reason pore smoke from the Port engine for like 5 minutes and then clear up. It is a bug as far as I understand and it is not from improper operation of the Mossie. I have flown hour long sessions, starting with the smoke and it disappearing soon enough and completing my flight without incident. There was a second update just a couple of days ago and Ed may have already corrected this smoking bug, but I am not positive about that. Anyway, hope this helps Sir.

Edit: During install I am pretty sure you have to point the utility to DCS, but I can't remember what else I had to do. There again, I figured it out, so it should be simple for you.
Hope it works out and you decide to make the Jump Trooper. Just a word of caution I have my trim curves for Pitch, Roll axis(maybe a little less on Roll) set to 35, and each of the 3 trim axis to like 25 I think. I also have the Throttle saturation toned down to give a smoother response over the whole Throttle throw. I was having most of the throttle response in the lower one third of the whole throttle throw before tuning it. This is even using my VKB Gunfighter MkIII with the 200mm extension. She is very sensitive out of the box without some heavy curves. For takeoff I use no flaps, 2 notches nose down elevator trim, rudder starboard trim = pointer pointing at the 'r' in the word 'trim' and 2 full notches of right aileron trim. Baby steps in getting my trim right for takeoff but I have pretty much settled on these settings. Now I can get a hands off trimmed setting in normal flight that I can let fly itself for fairly long periods of time, yet still throw her around somewhat in A2A encounters using the Elevator Trim to assist A2A maneuvering. Maybe these settings will help save some time for first timers.
And on that note! My First Air to Air kill right at the top of a climbing stall as I tore that Fw190 a new one with my 20mms before bring my Mossie's nose down to watch the fireworks and hasty exit of that Hun from his heated situation. All in gorgeous detail in DSC's most recent offering. DCS is coming along a little piece at a time. I am having fun for now in the new toys and map. Still wanting for that Dynamic Campaign Generator that keeps being whispered about. I will believe it when I see it. Here is hoping that it will be released soon!
Blade...brilliant shots Those are some great-looking graphics, and that's a heck of a job taking out that FW! Very dramatic, too, right there at 'hammerhead'
Thanks Trooper. Here is a pic dump. Some old, some new. I have to say, while I love TGBS new clouds, DCS still has the best clouds as of now. Maybe CLOD/DWT will release TrueSky into the mix this year and we will have another in the competition.
I have finally started learning the Spit in DCS. What a Sweet Kite. Once my boy makes his initial banked turn into final, check what a ham he is for the camera, looking right at you soaking up the attention of the chase plane filming him.
I am proud to present my first offering of a film I made using DCS as the source. I recorded this track from a fictional mission I flew of an Aerodrome transfer from Detling to Lympne. I have been learning to use the video editor Shotcut for maybe 20 hours or less and this is my first attempt to make a film from beginning to end as a coherent project. I created three Shadowplay recordings from the original DCS Track and then did all of the editing and effects myself using bits and pieces and the magic of what I think is a pretty decent video editor. I hope you enjoy it, and any constructive critique, tips or suggestions are welcome. It is recorded in 5.1 surround and at 2560x1440 video resolution at 60fps, so if your monitor supports it and you have 5.1, CRANK IT UP! Be forewarned that at about the 3/4 mark I reopen the canopy of the Spitty and that Merlin gets a bit loud. Argh! Argh! Argh! raw HORSEPOWER!!! So, with no further ado' , I Present,
Thanks Trooper. I love the sounds, especially the Spitfire backfires and the external sound during the flybys. I think DCS has the best flyby plane sounds of almost any sim. Maybe CLOD/DWT rivals it closely. I will be working on some combat vids, and I am actually working on an ROF N11 line patrol mission, early morning, that had some good combat and a surprise I didn't see coming at the end of the mission. it is actually really fun using Shotcut and creating a movie, but time consuming. Thanks for your feedback, I am glad you like it.
Thank you Barkhorn1x. I got your new Belgium files for PWCG in ROF and will be revisiting that campaign soon. I have been learning the Spitty in DCS(and the I16! Love that little beast ) in preparation for the Operation Epsom Campaign, finally, and having a lot of fun while doing so. DCS just has a different twist, it just looks so good, but it really takes some effort to set the Hotas, learn the plane and become proficient. Maybe another week or so and then I will get a week at the most out of the Campaign and then I will be done with it because there is nothing else to do besides quick missions or a SP mission posted here and there on the ED Forums. Don't get me wrong, it is fun and great to learn, but after all of the effort, there is really little content. I really hope Ed pushes out the Dynamic Campaign Generator that they keep dropping hints about, but I am not holding my breath. Enjoy some of the fantastic DCS eye candy.

Fighting the K4 in the I16 is no easy feat.
I did manage to get some hits in, but those 7.62s just don't pack much of a punch even with exploding rounds. I did pepper the K4 quite a bit but she just kept on sailing until I hit some trees while trying to get greedy cutting a turn.
I see a small square but no picture? Bisher what happened? Edit, I see it now. Nice Pic Sir. She is still a Bad Mami Jami!!! You are still loving the Contolr+ star close up zoom in I see.
I decided to see how bad the no fuse delay availability actually is in DCS.

Rolling in and lining up on a non WWII cargo ship in a stock quick action mission in the Channel Map. Strike one for DCS.
Cookies away! Ack Ack is bracketing in on my Mosie.
I am thinking this seems like a safe altitude.
My eggs are right on target and hit the bow of the ship.
KaBoom and,.......my Mosie was riddled with termite holes from stem to stern as a result of the two quick secession blasts. Strike two for DCS!
The cargo ship sunk and I felt pretty good as this was my first ever bomb run in the old girl but,....
The old lass was shaking, bobbing and bucking around like she was going to give up the ghost at any moment. I tried to remember the feathering procedure in case I dropped a Merlin as I nursed her across the channel. I think it was Hawkinge that I had in sight in the distance as I was attempting to drop right in on final and pancake. Suddenly I lost my port engine and went into low altitude flat spin, and that put a damper on my day. I guess I will have to wait for the DCS fix for bomb fusing and low level bombing, which should be along any day, month, year or decade now.
No, not DCS is still a beautiful sim with varying degrees of fun, but dam-n if they ever just picked one Dam-n era to develop and fleshed it out, Ed would probably have the best Combat Flight sim on the market. But ED is ED and here we are with no bomb fusing delays after how many years now? I am confounded as to how this has even happened?????
ED is getting all of my money lately. They have a 50% off sale on a lot of modules, so I picked up the Mi24P and the Syria map. From what little I haveseen of both, they are absolutely stunning. Ed has been working on a Dynamic Mission Generator/Career for two years now and I am hopeful they will integrate it into DCS this years. Fingers crossed!
I really like that second Hind shot with the clouds in the background. I haven't played an ED sim in ages. Might be fun to load up just to get some time in the Eagle again.
Thank you Arthonon. Now I am building my HOTAS Profile for the Donkey and possibly the Dora after that. I have the Spitty and Mossie finished already. They may have to wait though as I have had a real hankering to fire up CLOD/DWT and take my Tomahawk out for a spin. Combat Flight Simming is good for me right now. A couple more from the last set also.
Well, I pretty much have my Hotas set up the way I want it and I have takeoffs and flyin round down pretty pat, but, umm, well, errrr , I'm still workin on landin the donkey. Any landin you can walk away from though?
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.
Thanks Ade! Good to see your still bopping about Sir. A couple more of Spitty love from last week. I cannot wait for Normandy II, Absolutely can't wait.
Changed my ride for one that I am more comfortable in.
My Spitty!
I have to admit that I am ashamed to say I have not even engaged in any combat on the Normandy II map because I am just having to much fun sight seeing. This is Flight Lieutenant Richard “Hap” Beall flying his Spitfire, Panama Bound, coded AU-H, irresponsibly low in London over the Isle of Dogs early on the morning of June 6th 1944 at 4:04 a.m. with a bit of fog still burning off.
Thanks Arthonon. Here are a few more. I did a scramble mission with one other Spitty against 4 incoming JU88s but the stupid replay was screwed up and i got no videos or pics from attacking and downing 4 Huns!
Got my 5800x3d installed with my RTX3090 and they are chewing up DCS Multi Core and spitin out good results on The Channel, Normandy II, Marianas and even the Syria map. I ran GB Normandy day invasion mission yesterday and had 60-70 FPS right down on the deck flying over the beach invasion. My best guesstimate is that this combo is producing 10-15% better performance than my old 5600x and RTX2070 did. The main point and my personal main concern is fluidity, and my Rig is running just as smooth as silk in any flight sim I run. I am good to go for a few years as I am maxed out on my AM4 platform CPU wise as of now. I don't want to jump to the 4 series NVIDIA cards as my RTX3090 is a power hungry Hot air blowing #%&*$# as it is, and I can't imagine the heat that the 4 series blows out. All is good in Combat Flight Sim land at my house!
Might have been better to just ground loop the aircraft before you got to the fence. It looked like you had slowed down enough to keep from wrecking the aircraft before you got to the fence.
However, whomever was on the planning commission for that roadway and fence that approved them should be strung up.
