Having some fun with a Home Defence campaign, flying with the Dover Defence Flight.

Wings and fuselage could be—and often were—pierced in 50 places, missing the occupants by inches (blissfully unaware of how close it had come until they returned to base). Then the sailmaker would carefully cover each hole with a square inch of Irish linen frayed at the edges and with a brushful of dope make our aircraft 'serviceable' again within an hour."

Great shots Albert, always something nostalgic about seeing the White cliffs. Those night landings can be a bit scary can’t they mate? ..bloody ell eek

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Hi all,
It's great to see the sim forever changing and always for the better.
Like many of you, I'm keen to get my hands on the latest iteration - in two weeks.
It's also nice to see so many of the skins I created apparently still being used.
It's prompted me to check my archives to see which aircraft I skinned.
It's quite a list covering a 10 year period:

Sopwith Camels
Sopwith Pup
Sopwith Triplane
Sopwith Snipe
DH.2
DH.4
DH.5
RE.8
FE.2b
SE5
SE5a
Bristol Scout
Halberstadt D.II
Gotha
SPAD XIII
Nieuport 11 to 28
Cauldron
Breguet 14
Morane Saulnier

Many more were skinned by James, Arto and Terry and all researched by Ted.
It's also good to see others now taking up skinning these great aircraft as well.

A great sim and community,

Mike

They certainly are scary mate, I even turned the contrast right up on my screen to try and see more clearly haha biggrin

As everyone awaits for BH&H2 of WOFF to arrive, let's refresh this thread with some historical screenies - was tweaking the venerable ver. 4.18 of WOFF ("deadly trees and fences" edition) over the last few days - the Xjouve lite water patch ver. 1.1 works fine in it, as does Xjouve's improved terrain mesh ver. 2.0, etc. I don't recommend my WOFF GPU Tuner patch for it (only for the PE since it degrades textures a wee bit too much in UE - although the modified preload.xml file from my GPU Tuner is okay to load in WOFF UE). Instead, for those running only the UE-ed. of WOFF - use the following tips extracted from my "WOFF on a Mac" thread.

Tip one:

In your Terrain.fx file, located under OBDWW1/shaders30, set the following line as follows:

const static float fTextureSize = 512;

or

const static float fTextureSize = 650;

Tip two:

If you don't mind slightly lower fps (60 to 80 fps approx.) but crisper ground textures, especially when in low dogfights, I recommend making a copy of the default compositetexturebudgets.xml file and modding it as per the specifications below:

- tweak the relevant line below to read as follows:

<Budgets PatchPixelDim="512" MinPatchDimUseThumb="4096">

- for all of the different "Rings" level entries, use the following entry:

<Ring PatchWorldDim="32768" RingDim="3" MinMaskRadius="65536"/>
<Ring PatchWorldDim="16384" RingDim="4" MinMaskRadius="53248"/>
<Ring PatchWorldDim="8192" RingDim="4" MinMaskRadius="40960"/>
<Ring PatchWorldDim="4096" RingDim="4" MinMaskRadius="24576"/>
<Ring PatchWorldDim="2048" RingDim="6" MinMaskRadius="12288"/>
<Ring PatchWorldDim="1024" RingDim="6" MinMaskRadius="6144"/>
<Ring PatchWorldDim="512" RingDim="6" MinMaskRadius="4096"/>
<Ring PatchWorldDim="256" RingDim="8" MinMaskRadius="1536"/>
<Ring PatchWorldDim="128" RingDim="8" MinMaskRadius="768"/>
<Ring PatchWorldDim="64" RingDim="8" MinMaskRadius="384"/>
<Ring PatchWorldDim="32" RingDim="8" MinMaskRadius="128" DetailTileCount="6"/>

Also recommended for further crispness is the Bucksnort SweetFX pack and perhaps one of my "subtle bloom" settings, or the "no bloom" setting if you don't like bloom (available in the relevant CombatAce thread for download). Pics. below are with the Bucksnort addon, my subtle bloom tweak, BB's clouds, the "light" standalone airfield facilities mods. by RJW, Lou and company, etc.

Happy flying all,
Von S smile2

The ground crew is great - one of the many wonderful features of the various airfield mods. done over the yrs. by RJW, Lou and company (and of course Geezer of First Eagles 2 fame since the various characters were initially done for FE2 and they look great in that sim too). The specific version loaded in my 4.18 install of WOFF is the "light" airfields mod. - not the large, consolidated batch (that one I use in WOFF PE). Don't know if the light airfields mod. is still available via Sandbagger's site but it's a lovely addition to WOFF UE and doesn't impact FPS.

Cheers all,
Von S smile2

Well, I just tried but there seems to be no ground crew. I installed the Consolidated Custom Facilities Mods Repository Folder for JSGME from the mods website. Did I do something wrong?

Trustworthkabad;

Do youself a favour any pay particular attention to the "Readme" files that come with the mods. Many of the mods depend on each other and some cannot be mixed.

You will save youself a lot of headaches.

Best Regards

I definitely recommend what RJW has posted above - read directions very carefully in the consolidated airfields, facilities and figures packages - since there are at least four or five folders in there that need to be installed in the proper order. Also keep in mind that JJJ's historical-aircraft-at-airfields mod., that is an add-on to his excellent Mission Editor, is not compatible with the latest (full consolidated) version of RJW's airfields packages. Best is to leave the JJJ historical aircraft mod. out if running the latest consolidated airfields mods. (I use an older version of the consolidated mod. in WOFF PE that functions with JJJ's aircraft mod. - whereas the light airfields mod. I have in ver. 4.18 is only UE-compatible and was never updated for PE.) Once the BHAH.II edition of WOFF comes out - I recommend initially running it in stock form until there is more info. on mod-compatibility with BHAH.II from various modders who are still actively modding. Look for updates both here in the SimHQ threads and also under the relevant CombatAce threads for WOFF.

Cheers,
Von S smile2
