"A great deal of an aeroplane could be holed without affecting its ability to fly. Wings and fuselage could be—and often were—pierced in 50 places, missing the occupants by inches (blissfully unaware of how close it had come until they returned to base). Then the sailmaker would carefully cover each hole with a square inch of Irish linen frayed at the edges and with a brushful of dope make our aircraft 'serviceable' again within an hour."

After my DH2 career started well, it ended with me spread over the streets of Albert like a jar of ticklers jam dropped from 10000 feet dizzy I started another flying for 60 squadron in November 1916.

I'm doing pretty well in it.....as this Halberstad, burning like a rocket on Guy Fawkes night, can testify lawncareby20mm

I had to start a new career as my RFC 60 squadron jaunt ended in a spiralling fall from several thousand feet and finally my Nieuport and I becoming forever entangled.

I've started another campaign now with 54 Squadron (a popular choice on here looking at other people's posts) flying Pups. I'm doing well and into February 1917, and what I thought would be a routine take off from Chipilly airfield. It was routine until I saw half the bloomin' Luftstreitkrafte coming towards me!!! (Slight exaggeration but you get my drift).

I had no option but to engage them with my flight and what ensued was the most amazing dogfight I've ever had in 30 years of playing flight sims.... absolutely brilliant....

I managed to bag two of the Albatros scouts (although it remains to see if I get credit for both banghead )

This sim has just paid for itself with that jaunt! winner

Thanks

Albie

French British airman lost his nerves:

EDIT: more detailed debrief revealed that it was British veteran pilot from RFC-29 flying Nieuport 23 Lewis.

Maybe he believes he is now more aerodynamic than his just exited aircraft!

Too bad those wingsuits hadn't been invented yet!

I had another fantastic sortie with 54 Squadron RFC and thought I'd share some pictures.

As you can see, it was a case of 'there may be trouble ahead'.....but I was able to get a bead on an Albatros and sent him packing with a flaming behind!!! ar15

Great pictures Adger, showing the graphics off in all their glory. That airfield looks like a deathtrap with all that ice and with the sun low down it looks positively freezing.

The pictures of balloons and people falling out of aircraft makes me think of the devs maybe combining the two and having people parachuting out of the Observation balloons when they're under attack. That would crank another notch on the realism scale.

Thanks Albert and yep your right about the ice..I overshot my landing and ended up in the fence duh No serious damage done though.

And I agree observers jumping out of the balloons would be a great touch, hopefully OBD might be able to incorporate it one day.
Cheers Adger

I decided I'd start a new career flying with the Germans in October 1915. I was tootling along in my Aviatik not expecting to see much when I spotted something which had me engrossed........as you can see.......the Fokker won.
