It's unbelievable how it seems that no two sunsets look the same in this game. Magnificent.

I got fired as the door man at a sperm bank.
Apparently it's in poor taste to tell leaving customers "Thanks for coming."

Great addition to the immersion factor! thumbsup
(I still find the terrain texture kind of poor comparing to PE ones) sigh

Let's bump up the screenies thread again gents' - very pleased to report that WOFF Platinum Edition is buzzing along beautifully in BootCamp on the Mac Pro (2013 model). Cloud scale/density can be freely doubled to a value of 6 now, and ground shadows can be safely set to at least a value of 2 - on ATI cards. No shadow flickering whatsoever, lovely.

Also recommended are the budget scenery and budget texture file tweaks that are posted under the relevant section of the long WOFF-on-a-Mac post, the higher-quality texture info. (not the stuff for WineSkin). Also great to try out are similar, higher-density tree/landscape variants posted under the relevant thread by Panama Red. I'm getting framerates of about 80 with the level-3 and level-4 tweaks by Panama Red. My own tweaks thin out the trees slightly but give me a bump of about 20 fps or so - will tinker perhaps with PR's level-4 or level-3 tweak but thinning out the trees slightly to see what happens.

Overall, the PE ed. of WOFF is a work of art and works just fine on the Mac - a great flight (and landscaping) simulator. Dogfights are plenty smooth and exciting, even more so than in the UE ed. I'd say. Currently testing threshold levels of -2 and -3 for individual fighter-on-fighter settings in the simulation.xml file - but the dogfights are intense even at stock settings. Also great are the newer visuals/shaders, sharp enough, and with greener grass, that I don't miss SweetFX at all in the PE edition. Pics. below are with my budget scenery/texture tweaks from the long Mac thread. The clouds are the optional/extra ones from the BuckeyeBob package (they work fine in the PE ed. of WOFF).

Some tips for Mac BootCamp users: Continue running the WOFF.exe in Win7 compatibility mode, for best results. Also, if upgrading from ver. 4.18 of WOFF make a backup first of the "facilities" folder, in the main WOFF directory, of ver. 4.18 - before upgrading. Then, after upgrading, copy all files in the older facilities folder, move over and paste into the new facilities folder in the PE edition - adding any missing facility files (do not replace any identical/newer files already in place in the PE ed. facilities folder). This will get rid of any "WOFF could not write to such and such an aerodrome xml file" type errors once PE starts to load.

Now to insall WOTR and take it for a spin too.

Happy holidays,
Von S smile2

Flying a Bristol with RFC 48, ran into Jasta 18 with "Sepple" Veltjens leading the pack. I got into a fight with him and managed to hurt him. I think he was probably wounded. Not being hampered by a sense of Chivalrousness I pulled along side and let my observer, one Lt. Oscar Sanders, set him on fire. Pretty plane, pretty man, made a pretty torch.

SKIN OF THE MONTH, JANUARY, 2020

Beginning in this new year, I thought it might be interesting to everyone to spotlight some of the excellent skins from the basic game and the WOFF Official Aircraft Skin Pack.

There are so many that you may never even see some of them unless you fly with that particular unit or encounter it in a scrap. Then, only seeing it fleetingly unless you stop to take a screenshot.

I also thought it would not be amiss to acknowledge those who put so much of their life blood into making these carefully researched, expertly painted and textured works of art.

I PM’d Schredward about who the creators were, and he replied with this:

Makai and Stachel collaborated on the DR1 and DVII skins; Stachel did the DIII, the RE8, BE2 and the F2b. Makai did the Alb DII, Halberstadt, Roland, DFW, Bristol Scout, Pfalz. The Finn did the Alb DV and SPAD DVII and Sandbagger did the SPAD XIII, the Noops, Camel, SE5 and added skins to some of the other types. And some of the skins were left over or reworked from Rabu.

To start, I would like to put the RNAS-9 Camel of Harold Francis Stackard on display. I got the idea for doing a SKIN OF THE MONTH feature when I had a fatal encounter with this Camel while flying a Pfalz with Jasta 30 and was impressed with the beauty of this little beast that was pumping virtual lead into my virtual backside.
As to the man this skin represents: Fl. Sub-Lt. Stackard transferred into the RNAS in Oct. 1916. After completing his training he spent eight months on the Western Front with the RNAS-9, Roy Brown’s outfit. I can’t find anything about his decorations, but being wounded and credited with 15 aerial victories there must have been some.

It being a Camel, I will presume it's to be Sandbagger who should take a bow for this one. [Linked Image] [Linked Image] [Linked Image] [Linked Image] [Linked Image]
