Since everyone has a reason for everything why Jasta 7? And does anyone ever use the “totally everything random” pilot generation feature in the Pilot Creation Screen?
I use it. Made a french pilot, got assingned to a recce/bomber squad in 1915. Did some recce missions, a few bombing runs. Now i take bombs for recce and try drop them on enemy airfields, maybe not a hiatorical approach but more fun for me. Still i requested a transfer to a fighter squadron, waiting for a positive response😉
Don’t know about all Squadrons/Esc (with bomb weight being a huge factor with these aircraft) but, reportedly, the Fee squadrons, even the “fighter” units, often carried bombs on patrol for targets of opportunity. Been watching the BBC series “Wings” so I am definitely going to start me a early war two-seated career - almost certainly in a Fe2b. Gotta figure out the bomb sights.
Good to be back. Or at least a bit more active. And thanks. Suffered with the usual busy RL stuff for several months but hope for more stick time from now on.
1 April 1917. Sergeant Pilot flying for 42 Squadron engaged in a little spotting mission for the artillery as they mercilessly pound the Hun trench line. First ever arty mission. Was the barrage on the assigned target a happy coincidence or a deliberate act of the campaign engine?
Guess the trade-off for having a gun pointed at your head for 90 minutes in January 1915 is the 180 FPS. Very Heavy AA if anyone is wondering. Be nice if I my computer could do that in 1918! The "Long Patrol" on a German factory area behind their lines.
Better hurry up Mortuus or the war will be over by the time you get here. January 1915 flying with 4 Squadron during a bombing attack of a German rail yard. One lesson learned is that the old Be under load is not a Stuka and I damage my plane during the descent making the plane difficult to control. Or maybe I was getting near stall speed after the level out. Anyway bombs dropped but more practice is indicated though I did damage some outbuildings.
Continuing with Two-seater Friday I fire up 42 Squadron on April 4 1917. The job is photo recon of the German trench line but I, channeling my inner Fee, take along two 112 lb bombs for targets of opportunity. This chance soon arrives as a Hun airfield heaves into view. At an altitude of 5,000' I switch to the bombsight view but find the plane tricky to fly. First bomb detonates near the hangers causing damage. Seconds later I realize the second bomb didn't drop and quickly kick it loose. Because the RFC is blessed from on high this bomb lands on the airfield perimeter destroying a plane, ready for take-off I didn't even see. He's burning just off my right wingtip. Huzzah! However, like kicking a bees nest, 3 or 4 planes take off but they can't catch up. Back at my field I am asked to submit a Claim Form for the destroyed aircraft however, the love for the RFC does not extend to me., and the claim is rejected as I had to guess at the plane type and guessed wrong. Oh well. Photos taken.
Mortus here is my version along with yours in which you posted "First flight with PE, and the first flight in a new career. March 25, 1916. B Flight of 29 Sqn, RFC, transferring from Swingate to St. Omer.": Took this while testing consolidated airfield mod for PE. Pretty close to yours in location!

Here is my beloved Albatros D.v (upprated) from my Jasta 32b Campaign; my first in PE after very long absence, sporting the excellent default skin (by Paarma) reworked with some fine tunning (corrections and superdetailing) by me.
