Yes, I think that's all we need to do. And perhaps frag out some A-10s to sweep the roads that the units you give marching orders to will travel. I can't say how strong the enemy is on the ground around Sarejevo. I know they are still strong near Tuzla. Osijek and Split should not be too much trouble.
I can't tell from the screenshot, but do we hold Gornji Vakuf?
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!
theOden King, if you don't mind I'm reposting here questions I asked in BMS:
Quote
How are you proceeding at the moment? Server in 3D as usually recommended? If so, aircraft on ramp far from battlefield? Alt-tabbed from it? Are you bugged by the video news in any way, or rather, have you ever been, since you're in the Balkan now? Really curious about your successful setup, well done guys.
Can anyone confirm that the IVC server is online? I'm looking to get back into the sim some. I was just able to connect to the server, but not the IVC server. I think I set up my ports correctly..... Thanks
Hi cane, I saw you on, flying an interdiction near Split. Hope you had a good flight. I haven't been using IVC, but yes, I believe Oden has it set up. But I cannot confirm it's working. We have been using SimHQs Team Speak, but with some new interest as of late I think IVC will start to be used more.
Hopped on tonight and decided to change things up. After seeing how easy it was to hotpit refuel, I decided to work it in to a mission. After flying out of central and southern Italy for the past week, I transferred back to Brnik in Slovenia and the 22nd FS. This is the base we flew out of in the early stages of the war. I fragged a solo strike against the chemical plant at Osijek, about 240 miles away. Usually, I would carry bags on a mission this long. You always want to have a reserve if you can, and though 480 miles round trip is possible with only internal fuel, you'd be forced to manage it and have very little margin
I loaded the jet with four eight-fours, two -120s, two -9X plus sniper pod and jammer. I set the steerpoints and moved the alternate base steerpoint to Banja Luka. My plan was to hit the target, land at Banja Luka and refuel, then take off again and fly back to Brnik. I wrote down the tower fequency for Banja Luka. Weather was briefed to be good, but the target was shown as poor. I haven't flown in this part of the theater yet, so wasn't sure what I would find. Taxied out and took off from Brnik, clear weather, scattered cumulus with the tops at sixteen thousand, winds light at 6 knots. Real nice weather for flying.
I climbed out to 24,000 and kept the RPM at 105. Despite the weight this loadout is pretty slick (carrying slicks ) and the Viper was clipping along at Mach .91. About halfway to the target I dialed in the frequency for Banja Luka and called for a landing runway heading. I had already checked it in the pre-flight recon and knew it was 16/34. To my surprise I got a tower voice. OK, that will make the first landing and refuel a snap and feel correct. Something strange about landing at airbases with no voice. You gotta hear "Welcome Back", right?
I continued on toward the target. Bombs were set to ripple all four with 333 feet spacing. All the way I was aware of the perfect weather. But the brief said target was poor. As I turned on the strike heading from the IP, I got a 4 spike at 12 o'clock. Perfect. And I noticed the clouds changing on the horizon. F4 meteorologists are pretty good.
You can see the leading edge of the overcast midlevel in this shot, as I run in on the target, one mile from the IP (IP is 20 miles from target)
At DME 9 miles the target disappears from sight
I started my attack. From 20,000 I rolled inverted at 6 DME and pulled, rolling canopy-up at 30 degrees. The target disappeared beneath the sudden solid deck of cloud. I mean, it could not have been timed better, or worse. Not sure. Pretty cool really. I hesitated as I tried to decide to wait until I broke through, or pickle on the diamond. A glance at the HUD showed 14,000 and 510 knots in a 30 degree dive and I pickled above the clouds on the diamond and pulled hard left pumping chaff and flares. I was taking AAA fire, but as I cleared I saw no SAMs. There had been a Prowler about 20 miles short of the target conducting jamming operations, and he may have kept the SA-4 from firing. I never noticed the 4 inside the threat ring to be honest, but I was also concentrating on getting good bombs off.
Making a swift getaway
G-meter showed I pulled 6.9 coming around and I climbed out and flew toward Banja Luka, calling up steerpoint 8 for a heading. I offset to the left and called autonomous and was cleared straight in. Nothing's based here, so no traffic. It's my first visit here, and I took a quick tour, then pulled alongside a likely looking setup to make a good hotpit screenshot.
Turning on to final at Bankja Luka 34
Fill 'er up. This was the enemy's front line MiG-29 base at the outset of the war. Satisfying to be using it as a pitstop
I had landed with 2000 pounds. I took on 4000 and taxied to the departure end, got clearance and took off from Banja Luka, and turned west toward Brnik, about 160 miles away. With the additional fuel, I pushed the throttle up and made good time. I landed at Brnik 25 minutes later and shut it down. Fun mission, and glad I got a chance to test this concept that I have been meaning to. Felt like I exercised a little airmanship. Using a 'shuttle' base enables you to fly further, or carry bigger loadouts than you would otherwise, especially if aerial refueling isn't your strong suit.. Of course I could have just landed at Banja Luka and ended there too I suppose
Lifting off from Banja Luka. Looks like we lost a Blackhawk
Mach 1 on the way back to Brnik
Turning on to final at our old base Brnik
Mission complete

Hi Lorik, I actually do as little as possible. Current server hosting process is just starting IVC server and then Falcon BMS. Go comms to get server online. Go Campaign and select latest save file. Join a random C-17 Transport Squadron. Once in 2D map I just open COMMS to try keep track of connections (more important when I'm due to restart - DBond has been kicked out a number of times )
Cane, ports 2934 and 2935 for Falcon4 and 9987 to 9989 for IVC. I can connect but I am the odd guy here running inside my LAN but I checked my new (not so impressive) router and noticed IVC was on TCP in port fwd. I removed that and added it as "Both" and then it showed up as "UDP" (I'm running in circles here shouting unpleasant words) but I'll leave it as this and we'll see if you can join IVC later.
Great mission DBond. Nice how you had the Falcon Gods Weather Girl with you this time. So cool to the weather fronts.
That SA-4 behaved just like the SA-5 when I made my less-well-planned deep-strike to Belgrade, not sure if it is BMS 433 and jammer missions but I sure as heck have had both 4 and 5 come chasing me like madmen before. But I like this, SA-4 is an Army level SAM and SA-5 a theater SAM so I think they should be looking for B-52's and such and not so much small local fighters like our 16's (but it's replacement SA-10 and SA-12 sure as hell doesn't mind slapping me in the face).
Hotpit refuel, best thing since sliced bread! Now that you've verified it works I sure will fly more "four-eight-four" but I somehow think getting the craft back to base is important. We could try leaving it at Alternate and check to see if/when we get the plane back into squadron inventory.
I will try to be on IVC in the future (might need to hop off simHQ TS if so to not sound off everywhere since I have COM1 transmit same button as TS)
Edit: I'll be daymned but I almost got a little sentimental seeing Brnik airbase again
Thank you theOden for your answer. So you are in 2D, it seems to work pretty fine still, even though the AI apparently can't always be summoned for the best. But I'm not sure it's really better from 3D hosts.
By the way, AAR is Air-to-Air Refueling, I'm not sure that's what you guys are talking about.
I'll be daymned but I almost got a little sentimental seeing Brnik airbase again
Thanks, and the girl at the PX asked about you.
That's it, I have no clue what PX is but I'm transferring back to Brnik!
Anyways
I've been having this idea stuck last few days what CBU-87's can do that Mk84's can't do Was in the mood for a "four-eight-four" session again and took aim for a blinded SA-2 site just outside Osijek. Units were pretty stacked so I thought this would make for a "I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds" style delivery.
I had this evil SA-4 looking at me all the time, could they be out of missiles? With a failed second run, that annoying AAA suddenly made my plane shiver and off goes left MFD, HSD says "see you, I'm out of here" and the cockpit lit up a little too much making me sure I was on fire. Tried to calm down, had a date back home tonight you know, I check over my shoulders and for all red warning lights. No fire. Ok, let's figure out why my plane is tipping hard right. Ohh ahhh ok, one Mk84 still there, so the AAA hit just in my 2 single ripple 444ft making one bomb stuck. Emergency Jettison and off he goes. Shame on such a good bomb.
Now with a pretty dark cockpit I had to figure out a place to land, Brnik was out of the question now. Asking AWACS for divert airfield I got served with a heading 020 20 miles. Really? Around the corner? You sure it is friendly? No answer.
No room to argue I turned my ship north and in the pitch dark night I had serious issues fiding it. But there it was No need to light up the runway for me, thanks for nothing dudes.
Taxiing off the dark runway into even darker parking spaces it had a fairly spooky feeling to it. Once out to debrief I was happy to see a 14 kill result. Thats like 15 more than I usually manage.
(btw, you can all call me Captain now, happened yesterday but I was too senile to printscreen it to brag my keyboard to smitherin here, but maybe that was just as good )
Man.....I have not fired this sim up in a long long time. You guys are having way too much fun.....and no one even has a friendly A2A kill with a HARM. lol
I might have to dig up my Falcon set up.
Wolverine? From Frugal's World? Wow great to see you. Yes, please join us. You're letting us have all the fun
Yep that's me. Long time no see. I did manage to get my computer up and running. Now to try and do an install and see if my HOTAS still works.
I'm sure it will. My Cougar still works fine after having sat dormant for five years. Which stick are you using?
We seem to be stuck in consolidation. If that doesn't change soon I think we might want to just declare victory and look to begin the next one.
Hopped on last night and managed two missions. The first was a interdiction near Split to hit infantry with CBU. Managed 36 kills on my pass but was hit by a HN5. Knocked out my avionics, then I started losing power and soon the engine quit and I was forced to eject.
Then I flew another one of those helicopter hunts near Brindisi-Casale and knocked down 7. Landed at Casale.
Closing in on 100 air kills for the campaign. Hoping that puts me in the running for Ace of the Base
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!
Got a single flight in today. Oden was on, but had to attend to some matters, and not knowing when he would be back I fragged a solo interdiction to Split, once again. Dropped four CBU-97 for 10 kills, then swept the coast east to Podgorica, then across the Adriatic to Brindisi-Casale, then back to Palese. Didn't see a single helicopter. Landed with 500 pounds. We had several players on today. Thanks for joining.
We will probably go back to Korea for the next one. Stay tuned.

Found a factory and took out a couple of buildings, plus a hangar at an adjacent airport. Would have gotten a second hangar, but didn't realize until after I'd pickled that my TGP had drifted. Some AAA over the target...
