Gee - the upper one is definitely ROUCOURT, from where Jasta 11 and Jasta 12
operated for some time! Looking great already - good to have it in WOFF soon!

Thank you for the pics, OvS!
Could you just wear one of these AJDs*, and carry on testing? duck
We don't want to be delayed, do we?

Looks like the old Short plane from OFF2 , that would be great if this was in the game.

It's not my place to steal the devs thunder with specifics, but I will say this:

The French aren't just getting two new planes and they are done. They are going to be integrated into the war better than ever before.

The airfields have received a lot of attention to detail. Not just new airfields as Louvert pointed out and more than just the layouts of existing ones, but in some cases what types of planes you'll see deployed there and how things change over time. Some important airfields will be easily distinguishable from the rest. Coming home after a long mission - day or night - will be more gratifying. Overall, the airfields have been brought to life and it's hard to imagine just how much this adds to the immersion of WOFF UE over 3. Even the feel of landing at one has been revamped depending on varying conditions. You will probably never want to use 'Air Start' option again unless you are really pressed for time.

Installation has been streamlined and improved. I'm sure the devs will layout the details when it gets closer to release. - No, I have no idea when that will be.

There are new options in the Workshop. Some will help folks with more modest GPUs in certain conditions while others extend the functionality beyond just what is programmed into WOFF Ultimate Edition itself. It's up to the devs to let you know what that is.

Some sounds have been greatly improved, including the Allies Vickers machine gun which is much more satisfying to fire. I could never go back to the older sound after flying UE.

Just when I thought development for WOFF was winding down and coming to the end of it's life, the devs have decided not just to give it an extension but really a sort of re-birth. It's all very much an unexpected gift.

Hellshade, this is wonderful news, absolutely wonderful. The integration of Lou's British fields will be tremendous, and I'm intrigued by what you've said about the French. More than ever I'm hoping for "England" to appear as a selection when requesting transfers so that we'll be able to transfer RFC pilots to Home Establishment and enjoy more of this delicious buffet.

Thank you, devs. As anxious as I am, I hope you take all the time you need. This chapter of the continuing project is amazing and can't be rushed. Three cheers for the WOFF team and testers!!!

Wonderful!

At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if we do end up getting the Belgians too at some point. biggrin

Yes you can take off in the pre dawn lights and lit barrels, to really add to the atmosphere. New code to allow the player's airfield to have lights was needed.

Some quick examples

Just some screenshots of Jasta 9, 20 May 1917 on the Leffincourt airfield, taking off and in formation, plus a close up of some of the trees and scenery along with some shots that show how well it all blends together.

Apparently my Wingmen did. They saw the noops coming in before I did.

Jasta 9 patrol 21 May 1917. I look behind and 3 of my flight have turned 160+ degrees and are flying back the way we came. A trail of smoke way in the distance up above shows me a Sopwith Triplane is limping back home. I wheel about and try to find if there are any others. I did find one and he was quite good. Made damn fools of at least 5 of my flight and myself until he finally had to turn and head for home. I don't know if I was able to land a single round into him. He was a better pilot in a superior plane. If I had not had so many wingmen for him to contend with, he probably would have gotten the better of me. At any rate, when he was finished toying with us he slipped away with a nice move that put him well out in front. We gave chase but were never able to make up the difference, despite all of us following suit.

Looking behind, I spotted another tripehound in tow behind everyone in my flight. We focused on the first tripe, he figured he sneak in and take some of us out before we even knew what happened. I quickly positioned myself to engage him and he was not so clever as his friend. He too had a better machine but he was not that better pilot. At least not this day. Not sure if it's an intended change or not but if you watch to the very end, it looks like OBD is now modeling broken flight harnesses. He was my enemy and a brave and noble one at that but my heart sank to see him left to that fate...

Jasta 9 Patrol 23 May 1917 - We get tasked with intercepting incoming observer aircraft. A pair of Caudron G.4s(!) who quickly turned and headed back for their lines. They were too slow to react to the danger though and soon enough, we caught up with them. I made boom & zoom attacks while my wingmen closed in from directly behind, splitting their return fire between us. Again, I witnessed two men jump to their deaths from their craft. Still turns my stomach just to think about it. Man I love this sim!

WOFF UE beta. Jasta 9 Campaign

We get tasked to intercept inbound Allied Recon aircraft. We get up to altitude and head towards where they were spotted. Sure enough, we see 4 aircraft and as I look closer I can see they are Caudron G.4s flying in formation. The last engagement with G.4s went exceptionally well, so my confidence is high that once we catch them, we will make short work of them.

But WOFF UE and the war had other ideas. Every bit of what happened next is why I love this sim. Right down to the surprise ending.

\

That Spad pilot flew his plane to it's strengths: kept his speed up, maintained altitude advantage, attacked from behind and chose when to engage. Sometimes luck is better than skill and Fate is fickle.

Wonder how much WOFF UE will cost, because
I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy.
