@ Peally and master. I have nor had any reservations that this was going to be flight sim in space. However I was wanting more out of the flight model, which at the end of the day is the core and major portion of the game.
CR did say it would have Newtonian flight. Hell the keybindings say Newtonian, but nowhere in that post am I led to believe that Newtonian flight will come in.
He said he was going to make the "best damned space sim" for pc.
Lets take the sim word out of it. But I would expect at the very least achievable Newtonian flight. FFS evochron mercenaries has it and that is a one man show on a shoe string budget. Hell evochron also has gravitational pull, re-entry heat planetary fall in real time and you can if you wish coast in Newtonian flight the entire region if you have decades of your life to waste, and all of this in multiplayer!
What I am saying is, that if a one man band can do all that and not have the game be a chore to fly and keep a gamey aspect whilst having a semblance of "sim" then CR's claims are falling well short for innovation.
The art work is pretty though.
For any fanboi's. I am not complaining that this is not dcs in space. I am complaining because basic fundamentals that SHOULD be in a spacegame seem to be missing or overlooked.
If it continues this way, my cutlass with LTI will be up for sale at the standard price.
Best damned space sim ever....... well the current direction says otherwise

Fighterops...
The only TRUE Stealth crowd funded game.
Devs said there was stuff there, but you just couldn't see it.

Well the physics for Newtonian flight is in both ED and SC. ED is actually further from newtonian functionality than SC is. In SC the Newtonian physics are compromised by a flight computer that adjusts stuff automatically to make it feel non newtonian but the newtonian physics are there (albeit glitchy which will hopefully be fixed down the road.)
I was hoping for something more like Evochron or Shatterstar but it is what it is at the end of the day.
One thing SC does have going for it is the Damage Model which you cant even compare to ED's because ED does not have one yet...
Well, I for one did not kickstart "Space Shuttle Simulator 2015", but game in the spirit of Wing Commander. On my list of wanted features newtonian flight ranks just above a portaloo to be honest. I want a game in the spirit/feel of the original Elite (I'm a ED backer), Wing Commander and X-Wing/Tie Fighter. With a fun setting, a mix of great missions and sandbox universe.
I've fired up the Arena Commander about a dozen times, mostly in free flight to get a sense of the controls etc, and some vs the bots, but that's it. PvP combat in general interests me about as little as exploring where the sun doesn't shine.

That's incorrect to a point. The internal DM is present. External not so much.
If you subtarget a component of your target in ED, and you have gimballed weapons or lotsa aim/luck, you'll hit, damage and destroy said component.
Affecting performance related to that component.
External DM, is limited so far to pre-set areas that start burning when hull damage pass a threshold plus some little amount of particles emitted by the ship where weapons impact.
There are great videos of Anaconda being literally tore open with cargo pods slipping away.
But not even comparable, by far, to the rich amount of details in SC, that's for sure.

If you select a component and shoot it then it stops working but if you just fire at them you only take hull HPs down. SO if you shoot their engine all day they will just blow up without ever seeing any engine performance loss unless you specifically target them. At least that was my experience which may or may not be correct. It just felt weird.
Im sure an nice and complex system is on their list to do though but I just didnt see one yet.
I lack advanced knowledge about that... but I wouldn't think that Master. I seem to remember that someone fired at me and a number of systems got so damaged they gave problems.
Canopy and engines come to mind. Just don't quote me on that!

I have just tried the DFM after yesterdays 7.somthing gig patch ... and I was pleasantly surprised ..dog fighting in my transit van (aurora) has definitely got a LOT BETTER...I even managed to get on the tail of a vandull and stay there for a while. (still prefer elite more fluid ship control in my opinion) but using a hotas is now much easier (they still have to get customization in the control set up) and trackir is a must but this patch seems to be a step in the right direction
cheers all

Dont think of it as being vastly outnumbered ... but just having a large target selection.
The only thing more accurate than incoming fire, is incoming friendly fire

I really hope that your feelings change as the game evolves, but if you do come to a point where you're 'done', let me know and I'll give your Cutlass a good home.

TNGS Redeemer is Hangar Ready and onsale with LTI on the store for 250 (250? wtf really? Thought that was the ship that they got for just about nothing since it was a contest where their backers made ships)
New version of Arena Commander out with a ton of changes. The number of changes are too numerous and complex to type. Just go read the release notes. Some of the things that stand out. Maps are twice as big, they added smoother joystick support and you can now zoom your view with the mouse wheel / keyboard commands.
They also updated the game manual and did a video to help people learn some of the flight concepts.

Master,
Thanks for the updates. I cashed in my Constellation Taurus for the Redeemer! It just looks like it has a truer purpose than the Taurus. Also, really giving some thought to the Herald, as I like it's unique purpose. Thanks for posting these updates and the video.
