MechWarrior Online is already out, we got a few SimHQ players that play regularly. It was very good when I played it but I'm crap at shooters so I didn't play further.
Reign of Thunder does look like CoD with mechs, which isn't my idea of mech combat....

Reign of Thunder looks so awful, but MechWarrior looks good but I think that turned into Mechwarrior online. Would look pretty awesome if DCS got their paws on something like this, a battleMech done to DCS standards, heh, heh. Mick.

There is also a mech game called warhawk (or something like that) bit it is also COD with mechs. MWO is basically world of wartanks and not really a deep simulation.

I tried Hawken, it was a bit too shallow & cartoonish for my tastes

Curious what your expectations for MWO as a sim were? I've never played World of Tanks but I would guess it doesn't model all the various bettletech weapon systems and mech build configurations and customization that MWO does, as well as the ability to play various styles and strategies depending on the weapon build. Speaking as someone who loved Mechwarrior2 and didn't like Mechwarrior 3 or 4 because the play was too fast and didn't keep the sim feel of Mechwarrior2, and I liked MWLL but missed the ability to keep/manage/build specific weapon configurations, I think MWO returned to the sim feel of Mechwarrior2 which rewards smarter, slower team gameplay, targeted aiming and shooting and custom weapon builds for specific battle strategies. While I do think the beta is still is missing much of the components many of us would want from a MechWarrior2 descendant (more meta gaming, community warfare, singleplayer campaign) I think what they've managed to develop in just one year of actual coding has nailed the core mech driving and fighting sim feel for me. I'm not trying to convince anyone who might prefer other mech games, but just trying to understand the statement about MWO not being a sim, especially compared to past mechwarrior games or the competition, what are your expectations and is there a recent competing mech game that has it?

Curious what your expectations for MWO as a sim were? In Master's defense, he did use the word "deep". Perhaps he views MWO as sim-lite, just lacking some DCS depth? MWO is very FPS-oriented though, and without mental conditioning, one could could simply describe it as a "crappy, slow, lumbering FPS", not considering the objective, deliberate (slow, lumbering) attributes part of it's sim nature. And who needs subjective (crappy) attributes? I don't agree with them, so they must be wrong! (<--see what I did there?)

MWO is in open beta, download it an hop online with us! They roll out new features every couple of weeks and tweak weapons etc. IMO, it's not so much a shooter as a piloting game. Scifi, but it's not like an fps, more like a tank sim--especially the larger mechs. They start you out with some trial mechs and a cash boost for your first games to get you started. Save up, buy what you want. Or you can pay cash, but money comes pretty easily and the gameplay is addictive, so there's no need to buy directly.
Eventually we'll have TrackIR and better flightstick controls. Otherwise, kb/m works very well. I think Brennus uses a full flight stick and rudder set up, while I just use my HOTAS throttle and mouse. Very satisfying game, no respawns and there's already tons of customization you can do with your builds, with even more coming down the pipe. We're on the SimHQ TS server nightly, usually several of us throughout the night. Tues is regular gaming night, but we're always on at later hours during the week.
Reigh of Thunder doesn't look like it would be for me. I tried the Hawken beta, which is a nice system an very polished looking, but the gameplay is MUCH more FPS-like and fast paced. There's also Mechwarrior Tactics, which is a turn based strategy game. By the people doing MWO.

It's not pink! It's a vicious blood red! Just that in some lighting it looks a little washed out...

What do you guys know about this Battletech Universe game NGNG shows on their youtube page? Seems like a fairly simple game, like maybe made for a tablet or Unity? n/m, it mentioned Unity in the comments. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rk1XKuhFqao&list=UUfjiF6LH7fxeEoe8u6PONDA&index=14Not all that appealing, it's kind of Mechassault from a different view, but I'm curious about it.

http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlabBtw, check that site to play around with mech builds outside of the game to get an idea of what you can do. We can share builds with that tool as well.

Don't know anything about gameplay (I just learned of it), but the youtube page says it is PC only. If it is on the Unity engine, then that would probably make it a browser game, simlar to MechWarrior Tactics (which also uses the Unity engine).

So much so that I've even entertained the idea of learning 3d modelling and lua scripting. Alas, if I only had the time to dedicate to it. Maybe if I win lotto. The first mech I'd do in DCS World would be the Marauder.

Pinpoint accuracy is not possible, due to electronics issues...etc. I can see it now, losing individual systems like limbs fussed, loaders jammed, and gyros failing. S

Haven't read much to know, what's the deal with that? Is it like Dune where computers are outlawed from an AI rebellion or something? I assume there's a tech limitation for a reason. Obviously manufacturing is going strong. LOL

It deals with humanities destruction of its societies and the results of hundreds of years of constant warfare. Basically man has lost the tech to build mechs and their components and over 300 years that equipment has decayed.

If you want a DCS type of MechWarrior game, then I suppose the closest you'll get is Battletech 4.x on one of those Virtual World Tesla pods. You have to manage generators and coolant loops using the MFDs, something you never have to worry about even in the PC MechWarrior titles!
Affording such a setup-and maintaining it-is another story, though...
Other than that, I'm not really sure what to recommend you. Most mech "sims" don't really play all that alike in my experience, as they all have their own nuances. Just try comparing the PC MechWarrior titles, Heavy Gear 2, and Steel Battalion (the original Xbox titles with the huge controller) in terms of gameplay, and you'll find some very noticeable differences in their renditions of mech combat.
And for the most part, subsystem management (like a DCS-grade combat flight sim) isn't really part of the picture. Loadout customization, on the other hand...
