Well spotted Troll and Padre. Rather more important though is the use of unnecessary ground lightning which casts upward shadows from the supporting side supports and balusters. Hardly conducive to war economy measures. rolleyes

You also posted this on ROF forum.
As was said there, it does exist on Amiens Cathedral so it's a feather in the cap of the developers that they model so accurately. You have a problem with it, take it up with that church, not ROF. If you are looking for a religious dispute, then this forum is not the place to be. This is a forum that discusses ROF and not religious viewpoints.
I'm just a little suspicious that this might be trolling.

Come on now people, his concern was legit IMO. You don't have to be a Christian to realise this could have had dire repercussions if it had been an Easter egg slipped in by the devs. Your knowledge of Amiens Cathedral's architectural features and the history of Templar Knights symbology is very impressive, however not all of us are so well read on the subject. I'm an atheist and personally wouldn't have taken offense had this been an inside joke, but some people out there do care about disrespect for their faith, and it could have damaged RoF's reputation and caused the devs trouble. This was never about religious viewpoints, it was about respecting others' beliefs and not insulting them.

But all's well that ends well, the dev team's outstanding attention to detail has to be commented and this really speaks to their credit, but let's not bash Padre for being worried about the opposite.

Cheers

Nico

Damn, sorry for cursing in church, but with gargoules and stuff, these can be quite frightening.
but people still came to church.

There s no upside down pentagram in the pic of the cathedral that s in Wikipedia so what IS up with that in game pentagram?! Not hugely religious but it's a tiny bit concerning...

Dire repurcussions? From what? a symbol? One that is on quite a few churches? Mormons have inverted pentagrams on a few churches. This church isn't the only one.

You also realize that the inverted pentagram didn't become "evil" till the early 20th century almost completely due to allistair crowley and his insane writings? Before that the inverted pentagram had no evil meaning, in fact it meant quite something else to different religions or groups. The inverted pentagram only means something satanic if you subscribe to allistair crowley and his writings.

People really get too bent out of shape by nothing more than an upside down star. "Omg it's an upside down star, let's panic".

His concern was only legit if he was ignorant, and believes in satan or is some kind of bible thumper looking to find "evil" in every crevasse nook and cranny. If people would spend less time in the ignorance of religion and more in the basis of reality the world would be a much better place. Symbols are harmless. They don't conjur up some evil fairy tale being.

I wouldn't worry about the OP being a troll. I have never seen a troll post a "my bad" response to a fact check before. Over at the RoF thread he even says that it is proof of the detail in the game now. That is not the actions of a troll.

@ Suppards, read the rest of the thread before calling somebody a troll.
I was a little surprised with the first screenshot, thinking it was a bad joke as well. But yes indeed, life is stranger than fiction...

I'm more upset Padre is still using gages... WinkNGrin

From lobby groups and press scandal-mongers.

Once again, your knowledge of religious iconography and symbolism is impressive, but I am afraid you are just one in a thousand. The inverted pentagram has taken on a new meaning in the past decades, and it's that meaning which makes it offensive to some people when displayed in certain circumstances. I all stems from ignorance of the original meaning of the symbol, which has become irrelevant to most people.

To Joe public, the inverted pentagram is associated with Satan worshiping and Heresy (using broad Joe terms here, don't start throwing history of theology books at me now) and so will look completely out of place on the wall of a Cathedral. To some extent, at least regarding the history of religious symbolism, the OP appears to be somewhat of a Joe (no offense). A harmless one, but there are Joe lawyers, Joe columnists and even attention-craving Joes with a chip on their shoulder about pretty much anything, who will campaign, slender, sue and so forth, and RoF doesn't need that, does it ?

The inverted pentagram looked out of place to him on the wall of the cathedral, he innocently inquired about it (without making any accusations, shall-I remind you ?), learned a little something about French medieval architecture and we're all smarter for the little History lesson.

No harm done in trying to prevent what Joe could have honestly assumed to be potentially harmful to 777's good reputation.

Cheers

Nico

PS : Disclaimer : I am including myself in the word 'Joe', uneducated and clueless as I am about Theology or the History of Christian / Satanist symbolism.

Padre,
Did you join this forum and the official forum just to post this? I mean 5 posts at SimHQ and 9 posts at the official forum tells me so. Anyway, I don't get what the problem is with an accurate depiction of an inverted pentagram on a cathedral in Amiens. Ummm... SO?

slightly more interested in why the window (and is it a face ?) underneath the tail of the Alb have been circled. Do these in some way offend the OP's beliefs ?
