Hey, I just got my EBGames-ordered copies of Wings of War today, and after patching up the available no-CD EXE with Flyby1's no rockets editing, and then adding the file of all the unlocked missions, I took to the skies (thanks to all the WoW-playin' forum guys here too: Cas141, Flyby1, Ivor H, Polovski, and GSharp for getting me real interested in trying WoW)!

This game is a blast! \:D

I flew with a flight of Albatros D.IIIs in an instant action mission against Brisfits, and it was really good dogfighting. First, the sounds are great! The engines over-rev as you dive, the MGs sound good, and even the aerial damage as planes break up is audible! Of course as the other guys have already shown us on the forum here, the graphics are great too! The Alb. has all it's plumbing modeled from the wing radiator, and the cockpits are good too. The game's a visual Tour de Force!

Now even though the aircraft just don't loose any energy from high AOA maneuvering (there seems to be no stall response), they still slow to cuts in the throttle (so there just might be something in the coding that can be tweaked to allow for stall reactions).

Maybe the best news of all (for many of us perhaps) concerns the game's performance on the slowest of the two PCs I tested it on so far..........in the 4 vs. 4 dogfight I mentioned above, with 2X anti-alaising turned on, and triple buffering enabled, while running 1024 X 768 screen res the game performs smooth as silk on a 1 GHz machine with a GeForce 4 Ti 4600 GPU (128 Mb vRAM), and 512 Mb of system RAM. I'm hoping that it'll run on my slower LAN systems also, and will give them a try in a few days.

Bottom line in my opinion........I agree with all the other reviewers here so far, the game looks great, sounds great, runs great, is great fun, and has great potential for becoming more if it's flight modeling could be turned up (dialed down actually) a bit!

At twenty bucks U.S., it's well worth the price! \:\)

Excellent glad you managed to get it FlyXwire and it lives up to our hype ;\) . Considering it went from unheard-of to released it's a nice surprise.

So was it on DVD? Darned Gamestop preorder.

Trying it on anything with a GeForce 2 based card like the GeForce 4 MX 440?

Freaking awsome! Splended. Sehr Gut! Smashing!

Tell us more. The PC version is out in the US?

I am having a great time with my XBOX but I do want the PC version soon so I can see the sharp graphics and hear it through my computer speakers!

I've been watching this for a couple of weeks and it's very encouraging. I don't have a system to run this (have an old computer at this point) but should have something new in the next couple of months. I think I'll run out and buy this, sounds fun!

Any on-line action, btw?

Greg, some have received their pre-order deliveries for WoW (as have I). At the same time I've checked three EB retail outlets too, and as of yesterday none had the game (might have to order the PC version of WoW instead).

Droops, I'm not sure yet, but you connect via Gamespy (an optional install during the game's set-up), and we could certainly organize some online events for sure!

I'm going to get the rest of my LAN systems up and running with WoW (hopefully), and then invite the buds over for some co-op multiplayer action here soon.

Hey, just the fact that the game allows co-op encounters (Team Deathmatch), is commendable! \:\)

Be sure to visit Polovski's excellent screenshot/wallpaper website here for lot's of in-game media:

Here's a 3 o'clock view from the nacelle of a D.H.2, looking out over typical countryside from the Somme map (map settings are Season:Summer, Weather:Sunny):

Pretty sweet looking for "typical" terrain! ;\)

Hey guys, I just installed and ran WoW on my Athlon 850 MHz system (GeForce 4 Ti 4600 GPU w/128 Mb vRAM, and 512 Mb of system RAM), in the same 4 vs. 4 dogfight I mentioned above, with 2X anti-alaising turned on, and triple buffering enabled, while running 1024 X 768 screen res the game again performs smooth as silk!

Note this system is below the minimum requirements for the CPU as specified by the manual...........I'm pleased with this result! \:\)

Got it too this Friday (September 3rd) at Electronics Boutique in Providence, Rhode Island (the US version is a CD-ROM, by the way). After the hex edit and no-CD, I agree--this game is truly a blast. Hopefully we can organize an online meet for SimHQers using GameSpy. Post if interested!

Got my PC Copy today at EB too. I got the standard CD rom discs too. But the instructions still refer to the DVD.

I have to say I'm very impressed. The Xbox version is good. But the PC version is fantastic. The mouselook works very well with this. The models of the planes are very nicely done.

The US version is on CD-Rom? Cool! Kind'a chaffs my ass that it's been available here in the UK for a bit, and to try it I'll have to have it sent from the States! \:D

I'm up for it anytime (Eastern time zone here). Post your availability this weekend, anyone who's interested in trying this on GameSpy!
