Flew on a little sightseeing in my La-7, to check out if this famous palace was included in the FB map. Well, I think we can say that it was... :-)

So: where is it, and what's the story of the palace?

I was there in person in the 1990's on a very enjoyable visit.

A hint: the palace was completely gutted by the Nazis in WWII.

It's Peterhof (Petergof in Russian) on the Baltic coast west of LGrad.

Peterhof is correct!

The palace was destroyed by the Nazis, but before that the Russians had taken samples of all the walls, wallpaper, wooden furniture, etc., etc., so they could reproduce it exactly after the war.

The Germans chose to believe that the russian were sub-human and not real Europeans. So even though Peterhof was considered a pearl in Europeran architecture they chose deliberately to destroy it, since it couldn't possibly be of any artistic value to their twisted minds.
