Can someone explain when and when not to use tailwheel lock.

You would usually lock it after runway lineup just b4 take off..

NO! NO! friend of mine, who is a real pilot, told me that tail wheel is locked only on landings.

Hey I believe F-16 pilot knows better when to lock damn thing eh?

Uhhm... This, I believe, might vary per plane, but the idea is to take-off with the tailwheel UNlocked, unless there's a strong wind. You would definitely unlock it for the landing.

You should only use for takeoff on odd-numbered days and for landing on even numbered. Unless it's a leap year than that is reversed.
