You don't have to saddle up on his 6 you know, force him to fly across your flight path, but greet him with a wall of bullets - The deflection shot!

Sorry everyone. Having serious monitor probs. Good for 5 to 15 minutes before "POOOFF". I had a feeling the "Scissors" was posted so peeked in. Sure enough . But I could only scan it breifly. Will read and respond ASAP.

I have the page bookmarked. Bear with me. I will return.

Thanks Markshot for the post.

You should do a "Maneuver of the week" for the barrel roll. You have the best continuous barrel I have seen.

If you and I fully debrief the scissors and barrel rolls, then we might have to come up with something new when flying as the "under dog".

Rgr that Mark, same here... that rivaled even the marathon bouts Z an I have on the zone...

I don't now about explaining the barrel roll, it's all seat of the pants with me LOL! I'm just watching you/the opponent and trying to anticipate when to break out of the roll and make an offensive move for a quick snapshot...

There's some very good info here.

Snap roll...wrong usage here. Mark...I think you mean "fast rate of roll". A snap roll is a roll that develops out of a deliberate stall...as in full aft stick (when slow, followed by a rapid full rudder input.) In your case, we are talking full aileron throw coordinated by rudder with the stick essentially unloaded (one G)...in other words, a fast roll but no stall.

Beware any attempt to begin a scissors prior to the bandit overshooting your flight path. A scissors, by definition, is a response to an overshoot. It is NOT a maneuver that is flown to create an overshoot.

Any reversal prior to the bandit overshooting your flight path invites an immediate gun attack...all you are doing is solving his angle off problem. Rather than reversing, a better solution is to maintain the turn and change your plane of turn (increase or decrease bank angle).

In our sims, a scissors is as much an exercise in view management as it is stick and rudder BFM. The scissors is attempted when a bandit overshoots our flight path so badly that we see an opportunity to reverse roles with him...or at least go neutral. In the initial stages, a scissors is flown looking backwards, so view management and the ability to fly looking backwards is crucial.

A scissors is basically two things...one, an ability to rotate your lift vector behind the bandit's six before he can do the same to you...and two, a fine ability to control pitch so that you can fly at minimum forward airspeed.
