I'm not entirely sure I would argue which, BoB or IL2 is more "realistic". For me too, I dont get hung up on the exacting details of a flight model or the rate of fire. I want it to feel real, it really doesen't have to be perfect.
IMO IL2 is a great sim, flat out. Single player is lacking a dynamic campaign and that is what brings it down for me in the end. The flying is very fun, battles are intense, the feel of speed impressive. The sounds and visuals absolutely the best IMO.
Maddox is good for our genre I think. He has proven that with an ear toward the community, a devotion to the topic and good code combat flight sims can succeed. If FB has an engaging dynamic war going on it will surely be on my rig.
BoB is an historical work that happens to also be a combat flight sim and strategic wargame. It has untouchable air combat with the numbers of aircraft rendered and the visuals and sounds are more than enough to immerse one for going on two years now. Only EAW had that kind of legs.
Between the 2 games BoB is the clear winner for me and still improving.
The more good games the better
