I don't think there are any as fun for dogfighter as this one with localized damage. F-15 does great on the flight models, but no localized damage. I have the eMagin now and even with headtracking Lomac is still really boring. Most online stuff is BVR and you'll spend 98% of the time just flying around. The single player missions in flanker are better designed even. I don't think you can beat F-15 and FA-18...18 for multiplayer coop and avionics, 15 for the flight models and one on one multiplayer. For pure guns dogfights, load up WWIIF in Veteran and go have some fun.

Almost missed one. Total Air War is fun. VR cockpit. Wide mode option on the fly. Off boresight missiles. Excellent situational awareness with the AWACs link. With it taken out the radar is extemely well designed, but also automated. There's a lot of stuff running in the background that's more sophisticated than people realise. It's kind of a pure experience like WWIIF without the obsession of minutia or a dumbing down the realism where it counts. Even thrust vectoring is accurately modeled, probably the the only sim outside of x-Plane. I know landing damage is localized, so I'm assuming combat damage is to some extent. Landing is very easy because of the full graphic modern ILS system used, but hard landings are modeled. EF2000 and TAW got the recommendation of a fighter pilot who said the DiD stuff captured the experience better than the others he'd tried.

I'm not interested in campaigns, just air to air quick mission dogfights with damage localized to the area of the plane I've hit.
I think Mig Alley might be what you're looking for (Korea), though it may be difficult to find a copy.
