Anybody here found a jet sim that is fun like WWII Fighters for quick dogfighting?

I'm not interested in campaigns, just air to air quick mission dogfights with damage localized to the area of the plane I've hit.

I've tried:
Falcon 4.0 (not Allied Force though)
Jane's F-15 and F-18
Strike Fighters
Typhoon
USAF

They leave me cold. Any suggestions for what I'm seeking?

CFS2 has jets available for d/l (Korea)

EAW has Sabres/Mig-15 also available for d/l

Ding Hao,
Hmmmmm, CFS2 does seem to record localized hits on different parts of the plane.

If I find, say, F-86 and Mig-15 models for CFS2 can I fly an F-86 against a computer A.I. Mig?

For CFS2 the answer is YES...you will need the Quick Combat editor (I think you can get all of these at Simviation.com)...there are also several campaigns (just a series of linked missions) for Korea...

For EAW you will need the ECA program....
Flying Tiger site also has a campaign (haven't tried this, tho) these can be had at Sandbagger located here at EAW forum

CFS-3 might be worth looking at also, both for its "out of box" jets (late WWII designs) and its Korean War mod package . The DogPatch Crew's cockpits for their F-86 and MiG-15 are among the best 'freeware' pits available for CFS-3.

In CFS-3 you can set up Instant Action dogfight scenarios very easily; you can choose any plane vs. any other plane that's loaded in your library, regardless of their default nationality when used by the game's campaigns. New planes are usually easy to download and install from sites like Netwings or avhistory.org. As far as I know, though, you'll be limited to early jet warfare -- in other words, no guided missiles.

CFS-3 isn't my favorite dogfighter but its expandibility and its SFX visuals make it worth considering. The "FirePower" commercial addon by Shockwave adds a few more Luftwaffe late war and 'drawing board' fighter designs.

My other recommedation is "IL-2: Forgotten Battles" with the "Ace Expansion Pack" installed over it (these can be purchased together as the "Gold Pack"). Jet warfare is limited to YP-80 'Shooting Star' prototype vs. German Me-262 and He-162 (and Me-163 and Go-229 as well as the Russian BI-1 rocket plane). On the other hand the default Quick Mission Builder is easy to use and you can set up dogfights of up to 16 vs. 16 with up to four different aircraft types on each side. The AI is fairly good and the damage model is detailed. There are plenty of piston fighters to choose from and the 3D cockpits are generally very nice ... the IL-2 series is the true successor to "WWII Fighters" in my opinion.

My fuzzy recollection is that Fluke very suddenly reversed his stance on WWII Fighters' longevity, said his goodbyes and migrated over to Forgotten Battles. He still liked to pop in at ww2fighters.org under a different name for a while, though ...

Whatever Fluke's objections to "IL-2 Sturmovik" may have been in 2001, you can't deny that "Forgotten Battles" and "Pacific Fighters" have opened the series up significantly since then. Every one of WWIIF's default planes are now flyable in the IL-2 series, many of them with multiple variants. Forgotten Battles gained an Ardennes map (albeit smaller in coverage than WWIIF's) and a collection of US vehicles in its first major patch.

Another question if I may........

Having just deleted Jetfighter V and F-22 Lightning 3 from my drive, I am left with Wings over Vietnam. It's a keeper for me - it get's the adrenaline pumping but.......

What about a jet game with missles and padlock where I can choose the type of enemy planes in instant action or quick create-a-mission?

I used to do that in Janes F-15, F-18, USAF, and EF2000 but, alas, I now have have graphic and WinXP problems with those games that prevent me from going back to them.

Ken, if you like WOV, then why don't you try Strike Fighters. It may be just what you're looking for. I like it!

Pooch,
Oh yeah, Strike Fighters and WOV - both great! As a casual flight simmer, I'm most impressed with the physics in the game - I can "feel" the inertia of the jets.

I think I found what I was looking for after all. I reloaded Jane's F-18 (and tried the tricks to fix the graphic anomalies) and waddaya know - it's just what i was looking for! I can create instant missions by picking my ground targets and enemy planes.

I miss the Jane's series..........
