Then you've got it all, I think.

Thought the PD was in the upgrade

Do NOT just dump everything in the original BS1983 into your SP4 game. The creator has left in some of the games actual dll files (in the Object folder) - so if you let them over write your current game files the game will not even start.

Those files are not needed and should never have been included.

It's kind of a dance. What worked for me was starting with a clean, pre-SP4 install.

Then, I installed all the old patches prior to SP4.

I then unzipped BS 1983 into my installation.

Then I installed SP4 and all the latest patches.

That's when I unzipped the upgrade, added Bun's latest weapons pack, the C6 Mega Pak, etc.

OK the upgrade's GroundObject folder has a space between the words, it looks like 'Ground Object', so you'll have to fix that.

There'll be a lot of .ini tweaking, especially to loadout .inis for the individual aircraft

But it's WORTH IT.

This is what the readme says for the update I downloaded:

 Quote:

Burning Sands 1983 SP4 Update

This is an update of the Burning Sands 1983 Campaign. I've tried to be more accurate with the unit names and added the MBT's of the era. Also this update does accommodate the Mirage Factory F-15A available at combatace.com. This update does not contain any 3rd party aircraft.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update 25JUN06:

Added MiG-25PD enemy units.

Note: You can get the MiG-25PD from:

http://www.combatace.com

or

http://www.column5.us

Fixes:

1.Corrected start date for USAF 356th FS.
2.Fixed decal issue with MiG-21MF camo skin.
3.Few other minor corrections/improvements.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Installation:

Just extract into main folder of SFP1 SP4. Install latest Weapons Pack. Have Fun!

Advanced user may wish to use own method of installing.

NOTE: The included Squadron List will work for this campaign and the Burning Sands "Upgrade" Campaign also available at http://www.combatace.com.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks goes out to TK and his team, all modders, and fans of the series.

Vince

I downloaded the MiG-25PD from column5. Haven't done any installation yet...still having fun with Johan's Suez and Mideast campaigns..in a separate install instance.

Here is one way of doing it - had to give this out to some newbie a few months back - will teach me to
help people really

------------------------------------

1. Right patch the game to the latest patch - then test it to make sure it loads ok (think youve down this already!)

2. Download the original BS1983 and extract it to YOUR DESKTOP only (right click and select extract to [2232]burinig_sands_1983 )

3. Now you have to copy and paste the following files ONLY into their respective folders within your SFP1 game folder (IE THE COPY / 2nd install that you did - dont touch your original install - otherwise you have to keep installing it from disk each time!).

Using Windows Explorer (thats not Internet explorer) copy and paste the following individually

So each time go INTO the folder - then do CTRL+A to select all, then copy - then you must go into your install (SFP_BS1983\) and paste them into the associated folder

Campaigns (all files inside )
Effects (all files + You can over-write when asked)
Flight (all files inside )
Pilotdata (all files inside )
Sounds (all files inside )

Objects\Aircraft - ONLY all contents of the AIRCRAFT folder - DO NOT copy over any of the files imediately in "objects" (such as AircfaftFormation.dll ) - THESE ARE CAUSING THE PROBLEM AND SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN INCLUDED

4. Test the game starts up then exit

5. Then download the BS1983 UPDATE (as per the link i gave you)- and extract it to a folder onyour DESKTOP as above.

As in step 3 copy and paste the follwing over:

Campaigns (all files + You can over-write when asked)
Flight (all files + You can over-write when asked)
PilotData (all files + You can over-write when asked)
Terrain (all files + You can over-write when asked)
Objects\Aircraft (all files + You can over-write when asked) - You will see this includes the Updated A-7E and the MIG-25PD
Objects\GroundObject (all files + You can over-write when asked)

A major change in SP4 is that ground vehicles now have their own separate folder like the Aircraft do but called GroundObject.

NOTE: If you are not sure that something is at the right level when you paste it in - look at the other files in that folder - for exaple when you go into \objects\aircraft see how they are at the same level and in their own folders

6. Test game startup

7. You then will need to put the Weapons into the Objects\weapons folder and install using the Weps editor version I gave you a link to.

That works - some of the planes you have may be old versions - later ones may have updated HUDs etc - certainly you may want to put a newer F-16A model in - its easy to do - just search old posts at CA if the readme is crap - or look at the knowledge base.

Ive modded the hell out of these games and they are pretty bullett proof - CTDs are 99% down to a person putting an old file in or putting in the wrong place etc.

Thanks. Whew! I was led to believe by the SIMHQ review sometime ago that it was an easy one click install \:\) Oh well.. I have a stock patched SF:P1 installation burned to CD so I can quickly revert or lay it down as a base for a conversion mod, so I guess I can play with it.

Thanks for the props.

Recluse:

One click installer...that's funny. Sorry for the confusion on getting it up and running though. Follow MigBuster's instructions and you should be ok. Almost everything he said was spot on. The mod was released prior to the release of SP4. I failed to realize that some of us would forget to delete the old ground object stuff after the SP4 update. My bad.

Vince,

No need to apologize. I am in awe of the tremendous amount of effort and time it takes to create something of this magnitude. I've noticed throughout my adventures with SF:P1 that a lot of stuff changed as of SP4 and it takes some care getting things set up. I'm not afraid of a little tweaking :), but, of course, easier is always better \:\)

Thanks again for greatly expanding the universe of SF:P1!
