Hi,

1C:MG is searching for pictures, drawings, plans of port equipment and structures, particulary ship loading cranes, used in British and European docks at the Atlantic and Norht Sea ports.

Thanks in advance.

Suggest contacting this: http://www.museumindocklands.org.uk/English/ Don't know what they have but the museum covers the history of the docks.

Just discovered that these ought be among their collection:

Port of London Authority records

Establishment Department files: air raid deaths and injuries 1940-1947 (Boxes ARC1-3).
Emergency services for docks and river 1939 (Box P22); Safety First,
drownings 1939-1941 (Box P30); First Aid certificates 1939-1944 (Box P45); river

Which harbours specifically are required?

Presume the following main ports:

Harwich
Port of London - inc Tilbury, Sheerness Medway etc. -- but especially the large London Docks around Isle of Dogs.
Dover
Ramsgate
Folkestone
Newhaven
Portsmouth
Southampton
Weymouth
Anything outside of this is presumably not in the mapped area? It would be great if I'm wrong.

As far as Ramsgate goes there were never any massive cranes, just a few 10-12 ft high types, with a wheel on the side, around the inner basin.

They don't need pictures of harbours, but a port equipment, which could be used as generic in all/most harbours on the map.
If there were some unique large cranes, specific to a certain place - they will model it as a unique objects. But mostly they need the generic ones, to fill all existing harbours and ports on the map. So, if you have any pictures - post links here, or contact me via PM to obtain access to our FTP.

PS Thanks for the links. Forwarded them to the 1C.

These aren't cranes but were obviously a major feature of Dover harbour during the war.

Positioned on the Eastern arm of the harbour, they are part of an aerial ropeway system that ran from Tilmanstone Colliery. Part-opened in 1929, this section on the harbour wall in 1930, it was in use until World War Two although it wasn't used much after 1935. Becoming redundant at the outbreak of the war, it was eventually dismantled in 1954.
Running from the hopper along the harbour wall it entered into the cliff in two parallel tunnels, seen as black dots on the first picture.

I imagine that the wires and buckets were taken off when the war started, although I don't know for sure. It would certainly add to the realism to have the pylons on the wall, and provide a few more obstructions for low-flying aircraft!

All pictures taken from 'South Coast Railways - Dover to Ramsgate' by Vic Mitchell and Keith Smith.

Looking back towards the cliffs.

The height of the pylons can be judged from this pic. I reckon that there must have been about 12 pylons on the wall.

The coal hopper at the end of the ropeway. Pics 2 and 3 are adjacent.

The book also has a picture of the 'Piecemaker' railway gun and the railway tracks for the guns above St Margarets Bay if anyone is interested.

On behalf of 1C:MG workers big thanks to everyone, who submitted the info. Now they have something to begin with.
Yet, if you happen to come across some more photos of 1930-40 port equipment - don't hasitate to post them here. \:\)

Meanwhile, there is another request for help from community from Oleg:

More useless stuff that will never be seen at 350 KPH. Concentrate more on the stuff in the air and use the items you already have in your inventory.. We have been waiting for this addition for some time now...

You forget that playable AA guns will be modeled in SoW, so it's not "useless stuff."

While we're talking objects and buildings I hope that Oleg / 1C have got info about gasworks. Every town had the distinctive gasholders somewhere, and they were a target for opportunistic 109s.

Example: http://www.sutton.gov.uk/leisure/heritage/gasworks.htm

I had three hours to change the bus in London Victoria and so I took a little walk. I was surprised to see in RL what I remember to have seen here somewhere on the forums. Well, I did some more pics, hoping to have a better resolution or a better angle. I reduced the images somewhat and I don't post all ten here, so if the pics are of interest please tell me.
