Actually from what I'm reading at subsim, I'm going to choose STALKER.

well, let's hope they do a good job patching it

the eurogamer review has me really excited- this sounds like the game i was hoping for. it sounds like an incredible game, and most of the flaws mentioned seem like easy ones to fix w/ patches and mods. in 6-12months, with mods and patches, this game could well be incredible.

i especially like how he compares the combat to OFP in terms of its difficulty.

Yeah that review sounds good, especially because eurogamer is tough on games. I always go to them and 1up when I'm looking for the "con" reviews.

right- the big picture as far as it seems re: the finished game is that it is f'ing amazing, and that there is just roughness, which is what patches are for. it's not a farce like boiling point was. i cannot wait to start playing it, and for the patches and community mods to start acruing.

I pre-ordered both . . . no conflict. But if I had to choose, SH4.

Did they release the tools with the game, or are the coming "LATER", i.e. after they are done with their expansions, ala OFP.

I'll wait to see if Stalker runs stable and acceptable on standard hardware. The game concept itself should still be meaty enough (despite all the stuff chancelled out) that it will be worth the price, but not if it's a bug farm.

8.5 but more importantly, these quotes:

This first-person survival game is at times amazing and engrossing and on par with such classics as Deus Ex and System Shock

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. features one of the best ballistics models ever seen in a game, and as a result, firefights feel authentic as you try and hit someone with what can be a wildly inaccurate rifle.

The game's artificial intelligence is impressive, both in and out of combat. In combat, enemies are cunning when given enough room to move around. Human enemies hunt you intelligently, using cover and the terrain to their advantage.

There are some large-scale battles that will find you fighting alongside teammates, and afterward you'll watch as AI friendlies saunter up to the wounded writhing on the ground, say something nasty in Russian or Ukrainian, and then shoot them in the head.

The game's flashlight system also deserves a heaping of praise. The flashlight in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. cuts through the darkness with a realism that's beautiful to behold. It's your most important friend in the dark, but at the same time, it also betrays you, since enemies can see the light from your beam long before you can actually see them.

This is a bleak game, but in a good way, as it captures its postapocalyptic setting perfectly. It's also an excellent combination of combat, horror, and exploration.

it seems like we fps lovers haven't had a single player game of this quality and openness since far cry. i am so looking forward to playing this!
