Yeah, the Unreal 3 engine certainly looks awesome. They said to expect the first games using this engine in 2006.

ps: about the unreal 3 engine tim sweeney said that a direct x 9 card is minimum but you will need a gfx card with 1 gig of memory onboard to be able to run it with all the details on full

In 2006 1 gig of video RAM won't be a big deal.

We're supposed to be seeing 512 meg cards within months...

Contrary to what a lot of people think this is an overdue thing.

Using system memory to supplement videocard memory is a 1990's gimmick that was great for the 1990's.

That 60k shooter is only 60k because it doesn't use real textures, only procedural ones, which as anyone who has used 3dsMAX will tell you does not make it particularly easy to achieve the exact look you want.

I could EASILY see a gig of video ram being needed for that stuff.

It goes without saying that no home computer could run this stuff nowadays - I wonder what kind of equipment these guys are using to test this stuff out?

I also understand that they use tiles that are in windows already and it just accesses them....It still is impressive....
