Just a little update on my Mercs mod. I finally settled on a relatively decent name ;\) "Magrok's Misfits"

I'm attempting to work out the quirks in the contract system atm, then it's on to the armor & weapons selection system for the mercs... by that time I should have something useable enough for a release. \:\)

Good man. At this moment, the only companion mod I have tested is Ruin's Tale, which by the way is excellent. It will be good if we can have your mercenaries to make up the numbers and form raiding parties. I have evil plans to take out Bravil, Skingrad, Anvil and surrounding villages muhahaha!

Still collecting a lot of nice mods and waiting to finalize my mod list. The only loose end is Creature Continuum. Not sure if Rek is altogether earnest about his project.

In case he abandons the thing mid-way, would it be possible for me to retain my old savegame by using Wrye Bash Utility to unlevel all creatures, uninstall Creature Continuum, and then re-install Sage's Creature Balance ??

Well, at the moment the plan is to only let you hire one merc at a time... more than that would probably be possible, but... complicated ;\)

SHould be able to. THat's what I did when I first upgraded from Sage's to CC. IMO the CC is much superior to Sage, even if rek leaves it in its current state. After all, Sage is done with his mod as well, AFAIK.

Good enough. Me weilding Sentient Sword, your merc, and Ruin's Tale. The 4 of us should make a raiding party.

I don't doubt that. I was the one who kept promoting CC to this Forum. But how well does CC handle the Arena and Kvatch ? I know Rek said he has not change anything with Kvatch and the Arena, meaning they are still stock. Sage and Oscuro's made Kvatch and Arena not suitable for low level characters and that is how it should be. As far as development on Sage, I believe he has taken it as far as it will go because he's only interested in changing a narrow spectrum of stuff (one good thing about that is its compatibility with mods).

True, I didn't think about that. I guess nothing's perfect.. and honestly, I'd still rather have CC. If rek ditches it completely I may look into updating it some to include those, but I'm busy enough atm. ;\)

On the mercs, how does this sound for the leveling of the mercs? I'm looking at 4 ranks right now.. higher ranks becoming available at higher levels, obviously.

Must be at least lvl5 to hire a merc...
Private: available @ lvl 5
Corporal: available @ lvl 15
Sgt: available @ lvl 25
Sgt major: available @ lvl 35

ANd then the level offset (how much lower the merc's level is than the player's level)

When the player is less than level 15:
Private is 1-5 levels lower

Player level 15-24
Private is 5-10 levels lower
Corporal is 1-5 levels lower

Player level 25-34
private is 10-15 levels lower
corporal is 5-10 levels lower
sgt is 1-5 levels lower
Player level 35+
private is 15-20 levels lower
corporal is 10-15 levels lower
sgt is 5-10 levels lower
sgt maj is 1-5 levels lower

You guys better appreciate this.. this thing is gonna contain about 10,000 lines of scripting by the time it's finished. I think I feel my brains running out of my ears.... ;\)

I know I will certainly appreciate your effort, mate. 10,000 lines of code ! Community Modding is a thankless job \:D

The merc levelling sounds good. Not too uber so the player's role is not diminished.

Well, I exagerate just slightly \:D It probably probably will have several thousand lines in the end, but a good chunk of the base code is reuseable when I add a new class of merc (controlling stuff and all). It's mainly the weapons & armor selection thats a biatch. Speaking of it, I'm finishing up the weapons selection part right now (200 lines or so by itself ;\) ), then on to armor.. then figuring out a pricing system - then, then we'll finally have a workable product. \:\)
