The unofficial Czechoslovakian site has been updated and has moved to:
http://wow.gamecenter.cz/

On the Hangar page several of the aircraft are listed as "This plane is included in demo!"

Perhaps a Demo of the game will be out soon. I have done some searching but have not found anything...yet!

Glad you caught that GregW (hehehe....and Polovski too....delete your text will you ;\) ).

So looks like a demo is coming out, huh?

Well this is certainly good news, as it shows that there's some effort to promote the game further (beyond its initial release).

Maybe this demonstrates there will be additional support for the game in the future also..........X (fingers crossed)!

FlyXwire S!

The website you gave for Gathering has a forum up and running. It is here.
http://www.gathering.com/forums/index.php?c=7

Or click on the Gathering icon bottom right of main website page.

There are a number of Gathering games which have got forums. Maybe we should suggest to have a Wings of War forum- I'm sure it will come anyway.

Yeah, there are a few errors and ommissions on the Gathering site's "hangar". They say the Camel is the 2F1 version ("Ship's Camel" IIRC)which I think normally had 1xVickers and 1xLewis, and I think it had a longer-span top wing too, the WoW plane looks more like an F1 Camel albeit it shows centre-section Lewis guns, appreciate there was variety in armament (have seen a pic of a home defense camel with 2xLewis and no Vickers).

Also they have the SSW as an SSW D III - this had plain, Albatros-style wingtips. The WoW plane has horn-balanced ailerons which by my sources makes it a D IV.

They're also missing a good many planes, eg I can't see what they claim the Taube to be, which seems to me to be an Aviatik B II with some Alb C III features.

I presume the X-Box version has the same planes.

Still, we're making progress.

Ivor H, I think they're ok with their SSW D.III, as the aircraft recieved design changes to the ailerons (horn-extensions), the rudder (gained an enlarged angular profile), and eventually to the elevator too, all to reduce pilot control forces and improve maneuverability.

These changes all occurred after the prototypes were tested at the first 1918 fighter trials at Adlershof, in which a small production batch of D.IIIs were ordered for front-line evaluation.

The SSW D.IV is quite distinguishable by its high-aspect ratio wings (narrow cord compared to wingspan).

P.S. Just got notice that my pre-ordered copies of WoW have shipped from EB games (dated yesterday)............yeehaaaaaaa! \:D

Thanks FlyXWire, my Putman is the 1970 edition so I'm a bit out of date eg it records "breaking news" that The Rumpler Rubild is probably the C VI and not a variant of the C VII. The descriptions of the planes sound like they were written by somebody who knew what they were doing which is a good sign.

I should have noticed that the chord of the WoW's top wing is broader than the bottom one. Having said that it seems that D III's without the aileron "tabs" did see squadron service, the Putnam carries a shot of such a D III said to be of Kest 4b with a white fuselage band and a decorated pilot in front. anyway I'll correct my list on the other thread, as this is definitely a D III as you say, thanks!

What do you make of WoW's German C-type?

BTW I came across a cheap second-hand copy of Rowan's Dawn Patrol, head to head (MP)edition, nice condition. It's on a CD not floppies but nary a mention of Pentiums, or Windows even, in the required spec. Do you recall that one? From the manual it can even shoot game videos like IL2. Hopefully I'll get it to run using DOSBox or something. Graphics don't look much worse than Direct Draw RB, presumably this was a competitor of RB3's predecessors(1995). Must see if i can find an online review.

Anyway, what do you make of that C-type? I reckon Aviatik B II with a bit of Alb C III thrown in.

And do report back when you've taken WoW for a spin!

Ivor H, you were correct in identifying the SSW D.III features of the prototypes and of the first twenty or so early production aircraft, but the later SSW D.III production models had changed control surfaces, so the WoW version is correct in reflecting one of the later modified production craft.

Now I shouldn't comment on the German C-type you mention above, because the only one I've seen from Polovski's screenshots and from the WoW websites is the Roland C.II Walfisch (still waitin' here for my game). ;\)

Do you guys have a screenshot you could post of the C-Type you're discussing? \:\)

Hey, can you post a screenshot of the German C-Type you and Ivor are discussing........(is this a non-flyable type btw)?

Ivor H

Dawn Patrol was a fine game - sort of like an interactive book where you fly the planes of the aces written about.

I believe it was by Rowan who went on to make Flying Corps and Battle of Britain. They also made a WW2 title "Overlord" and jet sim "Navy Strike" - all excellent titles in their day.

I remember well making batch files to get the EMS and XMS memory allocation right to get them to run - if you get them to work let us know I stilll have them (somewhere).
