I have had FB and AEP since they came out. My primary interest was then and still is East Front combat. I've got everything tweaked pretty well and fined tuned for FB, and DCG is running my campaigns nicely.

I wasn't gonna buy PF, but recieved it as a Christmas present. Now my questions: Other than more planes, is there anything to be gained by doing a merged install? I don't really want the PF interface to replace the FB one, and have read a few horror stories about early merged installs screwing up FB. I don't fly online, so compatibility isn't a issue either. Do the pluses outweigh the minuses, and what if any are the good points of merging the two?

Well there are no more patches for AEP stand-alone so you miss out on improvements that are included with them.

So far we've had reduced muzzle flashes, new visibilty dots, new effects.....with more tweaks no doubt to come.

It's unlikely to mess up your current FB although I went for a fresh install of everything anyway, which was hardly a nightmare. ;\)

It really functions as a patch/update to FB, with more patches added on already. The extra planes, carriers and maps are nice, but other improvements have been made. IMO you really should install NOW. \:\)

I believe at the British flew some F6Fs in Europe over Normandy at least.

Jagd, the Luftwaffe MG 17 pack a bit more punch, with some incendiary included. Worth the merge....

Well...you can now fly USSR P-400s, P-39Ds, and A-20s on the Eastern Front (with some tweaking to DGEN). Plus the new splash effects, smoke effects, improved water in perfect mode (in all levels), improved water in excellent mode, new upgrades to the DM and FM, more realistically sized muzzle flashes...oh and a big thing...a free patch will release two new Eastern Front maps: Kurland and Murmansk.

So yeah, I'd say its worth it...even from a European (East or West) perspective.
